I guess I mean something along the lines of...you work on a file/case for 45 minutes orso, but you're allowed to bill for a full hour for it. You work on something else and you go over an allotted time, and tough luck.
Stuff like that.

Time is recorded in units. Each unit is 6 minutes. So if I work for 45 minutes that's 8 units.

Slightly pissed off. Started the new job this week, all on the basis of 2 days in the office.
Found out on weds that there has been a mandate passed down from on high they everyone has to be in the office 3 days.

FFS.

I'm still really quiet at work. It's pretty worrying. Nothing seems to be happening to address it.

No mention of future redundancies or a buyout?

We were bought out a couple of years ago.

Seems there is an exception process, so I'm going to give it a go.

Production has actually increased 20% since cycling a few supposedly dead wells. They have to do a last ditch flow attempt before they can be signed off for abandonment. 3 out of they 4 they did were absolutely dead. The 4th has surprised everyone, including the reservoir engineers and is flowing now 20% of our output on a 4% open choke (rest of the wells are running at 70-90% choke)

what this means is production end is now forecast for bloody September-October which means I'm not getting out of here with a redundancy till next year.

I'm definitely re-evaluating my options, though the redundancy golden handcuffs are hard to shake....

My 4-day week request was denied for "business reasons"

I won a new client today. I did some work with a broker on another case and I obviously impressed him. They're a very specialised broker and their clients are pretty big. It's only one case but hopefully there's more work to follow.

Top job.

Hopefully that will get you some interesting stuff to work on.

Working on pattern development for Q4. Only 250 3D CAD models, 750 drawings, 250 up-issues with mod records and a lengthy review and sign off period to do. 50 of the 250 require full development too.. so programming, manufacturing 3 batches of each on 3 different machines, meaning 3 change over machine setups and then 2 weeks of testing for each batch.

I suppose I'd better get cracking!

1 to 1 with my Manager yesterday and I brought up training and career progression. He seemed receptive and when I mentioned my 1-5 year plan he looked surprised I'd given it much thought. I just hope he doesn't think I'm stepping on his toes like he would have when I first joined.

I would benefit hugely from Project Management training and I'm hoping to progress to Management training subsequently with a 5+ year aim to be gaining Managerial responsibility.

Our team is growing and my Manager probably has too many people to manage currently so there's potential for a Team Manager to be instated.

A good manager will want people underneath him to be on the same level as them, so stop worrying you are treading on his toes. Being assertive about your career is a good thing and a good company will support that

Updating my CV. I've been keeping positive about the situation but it's gone beyond taking the piss now. I can't recall what I've said on here and I can't be bothered to trawl back through but in short, far too much work for our team and more short term decisions making the prospective long term look impossible. We also have priorities changed at least once a day. We can't do our jobs.

I will add, today has been a particularly awful day so maybe tomorrow when I read my above comment again I may think it isn't so bad. We shall see.

That sounds like really poor management

Tomorrow is today and I agree with everything I said above, in fact, I think I was kind to the situation.

It definitely is poor management and I have no visibility of which level the majority of this is occurring. I know my manager is swamped but beyond that I don't know the situation. There's likely to be a managerial position created beneath my current manager but I couldn't manage under him.

There's an Engineering Manager role open near my last place of work so I'm tailoring my CV to suit as best I can. I know the guy who this role replaces and so I've been in contact with him. It would be a diagonally upward move for me but I'm aware that this may not be my time; I'm realistic to the fact I have no managerial experience.
