Still, I suppose I can see how that would be the case....it's going to be that much no matter how small the advertiser is, from Joe Blogs Plumbing etc., on up...and then the more serious/mainstream advertisers will pay more, but also have the ability to do so.

There's pluses & minuses to sponsorship,,,,when I raced MTB's I was a sponsored rider for a while....which is cool for free race attire and a free bike....but that bike itself is not YOUR bike...as in it's not tailored to your specific needs. The shop needs you on something that people can go and buy straight out of a shop. So instead of racing one of my own tailored rides that cost upwards of $5K, you end up on sommit worth about $1200. You race it for a season...or a specific group of events, and then it's yours for a steep discount, or if it's really smashed up they might just give it to you. Mine wasn't smashed, but they gave it to me anyway so I took it and sold it....as long as I did that away from the shop they were fine with that.

Still....overall it was a great experience. Your are representing something...you're expected to give some sort of advice to newer riders..bit of coaching & stuff ("Let me win!!")....lead a few organised 'shop rides' for beginners and stuff. You accept it for what it is and 'just do it' (sic). And it's all catered towards beginners......seasoned riders don't need any of that stuff, they're already hooked.

I'd like to get back into it, TBH...was just looking at into it the other day for another shop...and again, the ride they're offering is not that great, but MTB rides have changed a bit over the last few years...so I'll need to adapt a bit, and it's late in the season. Next year maybe.

Given that they only have the one bike and that Jenny likes to take a tumble I reckon we would get more exposure if we sponsored the recovery truck they use to take the bike back to the garage.
