It has taken a while, but to be fair to FC Moto, they're in the hands of Rukka. Rukka have to inspect the item and decide what they're doing with them.

FC Moto haven't charged me anything for postage.

The zip failed on my jacket this evening. Bit pissed off because the jacket wasn't cheap.

I've sent an email to Alpinestar to tell them and to see what their response is.

Going to have to wear my leather jacket for commuting until it's fixed.

Alpinestars are usually pretty good at repairing stuff.

The zip on my Alpinestars suit failed. Joyda leathers comment when I took it in for repair was that it was far too thin and not fit for purpose.

I'll wait to see what Alpinestar say. If no joy from them I'll see if Joyda can help

No response from Alpinestar so I've sent a couple of emails to them from my work email address.

I've got a waterproof Alpinestar motocross jacket I wear over my leathers, might be worth getting one as a short term fix. Think they only cost around 30 to 40 quid.

I've got a light rain jacket I can put over my leathers, but the problem is taking a shirt to work rather than wearing one underneath my jacket. Plus leathers aren't that warm. I'm getting old and need my creature comforts.

Alpinestars have been in touch:-

We offer a 2 years warranty against material and/or manufacture defect. Where have you purchased your jacket? We generally deal assistance via the dealer.

We are available to receive your jacket back for assessment – in case the zip broke for wear and tear we would quote for repair.

How old is it? Reasonable wear and tear shouldnt be charged for surely. Saying that i suppose you are a heavy user of bike gear given your commutes.

It will be 2 years old this November.

I said the same to Sam about use, It must have done 20,000 miles by now. To be fair the jacket looks brand new, it's really worn well.

If they offer a 2yr warranty on the jacket, the zip should be capable of withstanding two years of reasonable use - commuting on a bike isn't unreasonable use, if it is they should state that at point of purchase surely?

I agree. I think the "wear and tear" is a catch all to prevent people from making spurious claims like colour fading or something daft like that.

Wear and tear would be valid if the jacket was in a shabby well used state, with other bits failing as well. But you saying the jacket is in top shape expect for a failed zip says to me it's not wear and tear but a less than worthy zip for that jacket.

An email has gone off to FC Moto. They must hate me, this is the third thing I've sent back to them

My guess is that FC Moto will be dragging the Astars rep in and giving him a grilling about how this is costing them money to support Astars under-specced kit and either Astars reimburse them or give them a better buy in price to allow for quality related returns like this.

If enough people returned garments with dodgy zips Astars would have to up the zip quality, but most people can't be arsed and just have it fixed themselves.
