Work have had the car park painted and moved around. My bike is now supposed to be parked in a designated parking bay, which is narrow and next to the pedestrian walkway. It's also on a slope. I've made my feelings known about this.

I've pointed out that the bike doesn't have a handbrake so I've had to leave it in gear. I'm not very happy about this. It's also exposed to the elements. Another worry is that it's out in the open, so anyone doing a delivery can see it, which means it's at risk of being nicked.


So what's the risks of damage, if any, in leaving a bike parked in gear?

None.

Other than some muppet trying to move it and not knowing its in gear and falling A over T.

I always leave my bike in gear.

That's my biggest concern now, someone bumping into it.

you have to pay to park at work !

Yeah, it's great. £20 a month. Robbing gits.

Two of our other offices have to pay so they reckon we should have to as well. Thing is, the other offices use someone else's car park, this is our own.

More penny pinching at work.

We've also been told that they're increasing our targets to cover the new IT they're putting in, because the new IT will enable us to work faster so we can do more.

It's all fun here. 0% pay rise last year and the hints are I'm getting 0.5% this year.

Thought of moving on Kwacky? Or is that the norm for your industry?

There aren't many jobs in the line of work I do so it's hard to get a move. It's a bit of a cat and mouse game as they know we struggle to find other work but if we do leave it buggers them up with the clients.

One option is to look at other areas of law but I'm a bit out of the loop having done this type of work for so long.

Workers rights are being eroded. It won't be long before the zero hours contract becomes standard.

A lot of the rights we enjoy come from European law. The Tories will do all they can to override that and give all the power back to the employers, with employees being nothing more than a commodity. I expect to see the return of the trade unions.

i wouldnt mind but last year i sold 3/4s of the total budget ,ive had one bad month this year and they want to cut my pay.I am furious ,stupid wankers

No they can't do that, are you targeted annually or by month? Also are you paid on commission or bonus as the bonus maybe discretionary. Commission and your basic salary are part of your contract which you are entitled to and they would really struggle to change that.

I'd just tell them bo!!ocks and look else where, but I have very little patience for idiots.

i have told them bollocks,my bonus is per 1/4 and discretionary so they can take that away but to be honest im only bothered about my basic wage

does anyone else go to work on a bike? if so, pay/share one car parking space.

No, just me.

To be honest I'm not that bothered by it. I use a car during winter and from time to time I need to attend meetings. I'm not allowed to go to meetings or appointments on the bike so I have to use a car then.

So you have to use your own car FOR work and pay to park it AT work? I know where I tell them to stick that!

The joys of being a lawyer. The world thinks we're overpaid wankers doing no work and living off expenses. I get bugger all in terms of extras. They've even changed our private medical scheme so it's not with using.

I could tell them to stick it but that's not going to pay the bills.

Can you at least claim the mileage?

Must admit my expenses have taken a dive with my latest company, I have to buy my own lunch unless I'm staying over night or leaving the house before 6am.
