Funny thing is, a few weeks a ago they tried to get me to sign a 6 month notice contract. I was quite tempted, but really excited to move on to something else.

Well.... I'd made my mind up I was going to take the Sydney Water job over the consultant role, I felt it was more secure and a better fit for me and my family going forward.

Seems I made the right decision!

I spotted a slow process so sourced and trialled an alternative tool which the operators love. Now I have the three required, I'm aware that this tool has some "theft-worthiness" so from some pictures, created a 3D printed piece to hold the spanner flat for engraving.

This is the end result:

Thank you both.

It's on Wednesday. I'm going to prep fairly intensely :)

It's with my Manager and another Manager which I get on with and like a lot. He said "I've put in 1 hour but I don't think it will take that long". When he interviewed me for my current role he only wanted me to answer 2 questions, 1 about my CV and 1 about my hands-on ability; quick tour then 30 minutes later the job was mine.

Good luck mate! I'm sure you will be more than prepared and impress.

Sounds very promising and that you are well prepared. Best of luck with it.

As for my work, I have got on to a shift pattern which gives me Friday/Saturday off and after 6 months have finally got my uniform ready for collection.

The management is like herding cats, whatever I want to discuss I have to speak to someone who is not there right now and eventually I catch all the people I have been told to see, all together then they look like frightened rabbits when they realise one of them has to deal with it right now.

I still have not got an answer if changing my rest days has affected my holiday bookings, it shouldn't but I want it confirmed.

Still waiting on my letter of offer from Sydney Water. I have heard they have sent out all the rejection emails, and I didn't get one of those, so still pretty confident I'm getting the job... BUT i have one more week offshore and if I don't want to come out again in August I kind of need to have that letter before I leave.

Plus after being out her nearly 10 yrs it would be really good to know for sure that I'm not coming back so I can say my goodbyes and clean my locker out (lol)

Interview done.

The role is a fair bit more intense than I realised which worried me initially, but by the end of it I was feeling quite good about it. I struggled a little with one or two questions but we were just chatting towards the end and I saw a lot of head nodding with points I was making and my feelings on certain things.

When I mentioned that boosting morale is part of my goal in this role, the other guy in the interview (not my Manager, a different Manager) commented on how interesting a point that was to make and how important it is so we definitely found a lot of common ground.

I made sure to remind them that I'm still young and mould-able to their requirements.

We also discussed that they don't want a "yes man". They want someone who can make a discussion based on sound logic and seek forgiveness rather than permission. I spoke about my progression in my 2 years of being here because I spent so much of my career being micromanaged. My Manager agreed with me and told the other guy that I'd definitely gotten better with that.

All in all, I think it started okay but ended well. My colleague has an interview and I'll hear back soon. My Manager makes the final decision so there will be no 2nd interview. It will be a job offer or a rejection letter.

I'm in the office today, 400 mile round-trip. The blow will be softened slightly by free steak and beer later
