Word up Slappers.
My compo claim for my shoulder came through the other week. It was more than I was expecting. My initial thought went to a track bike, but tbh I wouldn’t get the use out of it that I’d need to justify it, so I made a decision to bling up the Zed. And hire a bike for any trackdays in the future.
However, it wouldn’t be me if I wasn’t asking for other’s advice. If anyone has any suggestions about anything, please feel free to chime in.
Service – Desperately needed. I have no local knowledge of any places or people that can do a full service and fluid change, so at present I can only use t’internet which led me to Stourbridge Motorcycle Centre, amongst others. The website is decent but anyone have any first-hand experience of them? Or any other recommendations?
Chain and sprockets – Also desperately needed. I want a gold set. That’s as much knowledge of chains as I’ve got. Advice on makes is welcomed, and I’ve no idea about the difference between 520 and 525 or anything. I’m not after any change in teeth, I think. Maybe. Unless anyone can convince me otherwise?
Brake lines – I’m torn on these. Trying to minimise the amount of silver on the bike, I like the look of the Goodridge Shadows…

…but I also like the look of the steel ones where you can see the braided hoses. I think Monty has a set on his. Something like this…

Literally cannot make my mind up on this one.
Brake pads – I’ll probably need some new ones to go with the service. My knowledge goes as far as the fact that I need motorcycle ones!
Rear indicators – I think I’ve seen some Rizoma ones I like. The ones that came with the tail tidy are looking a bit shabby so it’s time to sort that out.
Brake reservoirs – Again, I’m thinking maybe something Rizoma-ish. Definitely front, probably rear as well.
Radiator guard – pretty sure I’m going with Evotech Performance for this.
Horn – OEM one has started to rust up. I fancied the idea of getting something like a Soundbomb…
http://www.rg-racing.com/browsetype/Denali_Sound/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
…but is it a bit over the top for something I’ve used probably 5 times in the last 3 years, 3 of those beeping goodbye to the family? I can get a replacement standard horn for less than a fiver, makes more sense?
Rearsets – At the moment I’m thinking Lightech…
http://www.lightechuk.com/lightech-kawa ... 1988-p.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
But these Valtermoto ones are a possible option too…
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Product.d ... GwodoZQCZQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Any other ideas?
I’m also toying with getting a rear seat cowl and some carbon bits and pieces, but that might come down to costing.
And what I ideally want to finish it off is to powdercoat the wheels, ceramic coat the downpipes and get a pair of Urban Brawlers in black to finish the dark look. The exhausts, which I really like, would look daft with the pipes being silver/rusty, but to get the wheels, pipes and zorsts done probably wouldn’t be too far off 4 figures out of the bank account, just for those three things.
So these last two lots of items may have to go on the back burner.
As always, I’m open to suggestions, advice, banter and ideas.
And cake!
