We've got the same problem where I live. Most houses have room for 2 cars. We've got 2 parking places and a garage so we're lucky. But the planners seem to have got everything mixed up. Directly behind our house is one of our spaces. Next to that is a space for a house 3 doors down on the
other road. Next to that is our 2 second space which is in front of our garage. Our garage is under someone else's house. Our second space parks next to that person's driveway.
The house on the
other side of the junction to us (we're on a corner of a small T junction) is the same sized house as ours, but no garage and two tandem parking spaces behind their garden. Those spaces run along side someone elses house, that house has 2 parking spaces in front of their house.
The house opposite the T junction has two spaces 3 houses down on a driveway but they can't be arsed to park there so they park on the pavement outside their house directly opposite the T junction, which forces cars on to the wrong side over the road, which is a joy when you're trying to pull out.
A combination of not enough parking spaces, too many cars and people parking where they like (rather than use their parking spaces) can make the place look cluttered.
