That's an impressive scar. Plus anything that detracts from that face of yours is a bonus.
Good news about the lack of other tumours. That's got to be a big relief.

Mine might not be as big, the neuro I’m going to see is a master of minimally invasiveness by all accounts. Her bread and butter is brain stem tumours so mine should be a walk in the park for her.

Re: What ails you today?
Saw the neurosurgeon today. Surgery will be on the 6th or 13th, depending on the logistics of securing nerve monitoring personnel.
Slightly different opinion to the last guy. They do pathology while I’m in surgery, so the whole C-bomb is up in the air. Surgery time would be 3-4 hrs rather than the 9-12 hrs I was previously told. Also outlined the recovery aspect more positively.
Best case scenario is it’s confirmed benign and there is no chord damage during surgery, and no issues with cutting the back of two of my vertebrae. If that all goes well I could be out of hospital by day 4 or 5. 4 weeks minimum recovery before able to be cleared for light duties and then another period of time before being cleared for offshore.
Obviously lots of variables in all that and possible complications but feeling a lot more positive about it all.

Glad it’s looking a bit more positive KIwi, sounds like the Neuro knows the score, fingers crossed for you.

Re: What ails you today?
Yup.
I ask for the bits of my vertebrae she’s cutting out, but apparently they legally aren’t allowed to do that.
I liked her a lot. Had a really good manner, as well as cracking a few inappropriate jokes
.... so that’s the best case. Now worst case? You don’t wake up from surgery, but don’t worry, that hardly ever happens to me. .......

Fingers crossed for you, Kiwi, that it all works out in that best case scenario. You seem to have had a difficult time over the last decade.

Yep, fingers, toes, arms and legs crossed from me. It's amazing what they can do in surgery these days, it's so advanced now.
Going into it so positively will help you after too.
Do they replace the bits of vertebrae with a cement or plastic or something?

Nope, just leave it out. It just helps spread the load a bit so no big loss apparently. Plenty of muscle and tissue as support structure in the area.C00kiemonster wrote:Yep, fingers, toes, arms and legs crossed from me. It's amazing what they can do in surgery these days, it's so advanced now.

I was dubious about all that myself but just talked to my sisters uncle (not my uncle, complicated childhood) and he’s an well reknown physio (when he was in NZ was the All Blacks head physio) and he confirmed for me there’s no issue with it missing.

Re: What ails you today?
Lower back has been killing me lately. Been doing a decent amount of road cycling, and it's all flat......there's no up & down breaks like on an MTB trail. Back has seized up to a degree.

Re: What ails you today?
Long time no speak..
I've been out of action for a while now as I've been suffering concussion since getting whiplash at a waterpark.
I've had a neck x-ray and all is fine and have an appointment in October to see the Neurologist. I'm still suffering but am back at work today for the first time in a couple of months. Hopefully I'll be around a little more frequently now.

Re: What ails you today?
Shit, sorry to hear that. Concussion is nasty. I've had it a couple of times.
What happened at the waterpark?
