Well actually to be truthful, I have a few most evenings, school holidays or not, that I'm not at work. I don't get pissed, but 2 or 3 gins does take the edge of homework, dinner, baths and bedtime procedures!

It's very rare for me to drink in the house. I never have a hankering for it when I'm at home.

I must admit I do like my work for all.of it's minues it does have a couple of pluses. 1. Start early finish early. 2. It's always busy so time goes quick. I'm now in my last couple of hours of work and I'm.looking forward to my weekend off

Where I live the closed pub is 5 km away up a 100km/hr zone road, with no verge to walk on. Plus being a single Dad now if I waited till I 'went out' I'd be having about 6 drinks a year.Kwacky wrote:It's very rare for me to drink in the house. I never have a hankering for it when I'm at home.

I took Mini Gee food shopping with me along our High St, we bought stuff at the fishmongers, butchers, greengrocers, deli and a second hand record shop. Apparently I'm far more fun to go shopping with than Mum.....
Seriously though, how do we ever expect independent shops to flourish if your kids never learn how to tell what's good and what's not and having a laugh and a bit of banter with the shopkeepers at the same time. It's fun and food awareness at the same time.

I'm with you there DeeGee. One of the things i like the most about living in the hills away from the city is i'm on a first name basis most of the shopkeepers of the shops I use in my local village. Especially the Post Office and BottleshopDeegee wrote:I took Mini Gee food shopping with me along our High St, we bought stuff at the fishmongers, butchers, greengrocers, deli and a second hand record shop. At my mum's for Sunday dinner. She's now reached that age where you have to leave the flavour in the water and throw it away.

Sounds all too familiar, both our parents over cook in pans full of water and have only reeled in their compulsive use of salt in the last 10yrs. There comes a time when parents need to hand over the baton of large family catering to the younger generation or face the uncomfortable fact they aren't as capable any more.

Re: What are you doing today ??
googling why Kwacky and Perks always refer to Birmingham as Brum, and themselves as Brummies.. wiki helped me out, all make sense now!

That's Yammers. The Black Country accent in full flow is baffling. It's hard to believe these people live less than 20 miles away and effectively speak (sorry, spake) another language.
