Wet tyres

How much wet do you need for wet tyres to work?

I'm looking at Sunday's forecast and an not sure that super corsa's are the best choice of tyre.

No direct experience but from watching racing as long as there are sections of standing water on a drying track wets are an option.

What about taking the Prilla with the m7's on they would be better that supercorsa.

if they are full wets it needs to be pissing down otherwise they overheat.I had a set on my old gsxr 750 ,knee down in the wet recalibrates your brain

I think supercorsas are ok in the wet once warm but they do seem to take much longer to get up to temperature than any other tyre I've tried. Do you use warmers?

I guess the supersport guys who have supercorsa as a control tyre have to use them in the wet so thinking about it they are a possible but obviously not ideal.

Personally if it was raining I wouldn't want to be out on track on them although would venture out if just a damp drying track.

Do you have a set of WoW's for the track bike Nutz ?

@daytonandy yes mate, I have got warmers if I can find somewhere to plug the extension lead in. Downside is I'm going to Mallory so plugs are hard to find.

@blade no WoW's. Was considering this as an opportunity to add then to the package

I don't mind riding in the rain, I just want to minimise the risk of stacking the track bike as I need it for Spain.

The rear tyre of the RSV is down past the wear indicators so not an option.

The forecast for Sunday says heavy rain at mallory park. I might be tempted to go with the wets. Are there tyre guys there that could change them there if you take both sets? I know it's extra money but cheaper than dropping the bike! You're not going to be able to relax if you're worrying about tyres all the time.

I think if it's raining they will be the best bet. It's when there are dry patches they start to overheat.

Forecast is a monsoon. If you have the option of wow I would go with that Nutz.

Called Gary at GS motorcycles (also the guy that organises the euro track days that Frankie and kingfixer goto)

Managed to score a pair of part worn Metzler m5's for a good price.

I know the tyres well as I had them in the RSV, they well have no problem with the rain, and means I can save the super Corsa's for a nicer day.

Result. They're a pretty good intermediate tyre so you know they'll cope with the wet or a damp track.
