It's a common mistake to make. Not that will make him feel any better about it.

Sorry to hear this Rossgo.

What bike has your Dad got ?

I will look out for a second hand sump. Might be worth ringing a few breakers yards too.

Hope he gets it sorted with minimal pain.

Cheers guys. Think he's kicking himself but he will bounce back!

Blade many thanks for the offer don't worry about looking for a second hand part, think he's happy with just buying new and getting the whole job done in one!

Poor bloke!!

Hope it works out Rossgo and your dad gets well looked after.

Good tip if a little late now but to avoid any future problems always change the sump washer when changing the oil. They only cost a few pence and as there crushable to get a good seal if there repeatedly used, eventyally they use up all their compression and then very easy to over tighten especially if no torque wrench used.

Not meant as criticism but as help to avoid any future problems.

Blade I'm laughing to myself over that comment. My that is exactly what my dad said to [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH AND TIGHTLY-CLOSED EYES] he knew as soon as it happened it was because of the washer, and he even said he 'should of' just popped to the dealers grabbed one and then done the job but he thought it would be fine! Well taught him a lesson!!!!

Gutted for your Dad Rossgo. We all make mistakes from time to time and it's so easily done. Hope he's back on the road soon.

Yesterday went out all day for an observed ride with a senior observer. I don't know what it is but I clearly get nervous when being observed and it didn't at all go well to how I am usually. At one point the senior observer felt I was being a bit too aggressive and unsafe, unsure whether this is because I haven't rode in the rain for such a long time I was still riding as if it was dry or if I was just over thinking and trying to push an overtake past someone who was constantly slowing down and speeding up which was increasingly getting me niffed off!! He noticed and he even felt that I was getting miffed off with these guys, but he said that I should of Sat back from them and allow them to go at their pace until there was a safe opportunity to over take. He said I was a good rider but I seem to have a switch, like personalities, 1 is a good smooth advanced rider and the second is a hoon rider! Afraid to say it but it's not the first time.I have heard this. His advice was pretty simple, practice 1 way, the advanced way. He did however love it when in the nationals pace was good postioning was flawless and also was fun! When I was in a built up area I had some filtering opportunities which I took, and he was impressed with it. Although I would of passed my test I am aiming for slightly higher than a pass so hot quite there. Now the rain and cold are settling in maybe this will make me more smoother which hopefully will help for the test!

Its surpising after 1 year of training I can turely see a difference in my riding. That's pace, safety, positioning for bends and I seriously feel more confident while on 2 wheels. It really has helped me

Focus on the positives Rossgo.

We all have emotions and occasional red mist moments. Not great but it happens so don't beat yourself up. Learn from it and move on focusing on the postive comments and clear improvements you Know you have made in the last year.

Like Blade says, we all have rides where we're not 100% for whatever reason.

You've done really well to get this far, a bad day isn't going to set you back. If anything it's a timely reminder as to how far you've come.

Keep up the good work.

Many Thanks for the kind words. Must admit on the plus side the observer showed me some amazing roads, they were down to Chichester, I need to head back down there , it would make such a good group ride out!

I had the joys once again of riding into the sun. Oh well, at least it'll be dark when I ride home.

Kwacky I take it you haven't got an internal sun visor in your helmet.

As you know I ve been looking at helmets recently. AGV do an entry level helmet with internal sun visor for £120 and surprisingly it's quite good quality.

Scores a very respectful 4 out of 5 on the sharp test and comes in some great replica colour schemes.

More info here if it's helpful.

I do Blade. They come as standard on the Nolan lid I've got.

The problem is that the sun is directly in my eyeline, so even with the sunvisor down all it's doing is dulling the glare.

Put some tape on the top edge of the visor and then dip your head a little might help.

Glare will only be sorted by polarized lenses of some description. Might be worth trying some sunglasses.
