Thought best to start a new thread.

Basically insurance on an RSV4 is silly money.

I currently pay 331 fully comp for both the zx10r and sp2. Current underwriter won't insure a rsv4 and cheapest my broker can find as a completely new policy is 1062 which is a naughty 731 more to insure the rsv4 over what I pay for a zx10r which Ironically is a quicker bike.

I asked for quotes on a 14 grand s1000rr for a comparison and strangely that is only 127 more to insure than a zx10r and clearly way way cheaper than a rsv4.

Clearly there is a high risk to insure a rsv4. Either they crash alot and get written off easy or they disappear in the night (blush)

It might be the cost of replacement OEM parts as well, that's another factor.

Also not spoke to my broker for a comparison as I'm on nights and they are currently closed but I did a quote online for a 1299 Panigale valued at £14000 and that was cheaper than the s1000rr and only about 50 quid more than my zx10r.

Ducati owners must be good riders and look after their bikes (y)

I am but they need to loose some money first as imo they are not worth what the market is currently asking for them and I think if I buy one I could loose a bucket of cash on one very very quickly.

My personal opinion is there currently over priced which is strange as the used market seems flooded with them.

Agree the rsv4 could be costly on replacement parts and that's what drives the insurance up as there written off easily.

Did you value the RSV at more than £15k? When I insured the new Multi I was told that is a trigger point for higher premiums as is £20k when you insure 1299S Panigales and the like.

No Duke put the RSV4 in as 11k and they tried 9k and it made no difference either.

Ironically the s1000rr I got them to give me a decent quote on was valued higher at 14k.

Looks like rsv4 are just a bugger to insure tbh.

Also l've had a little more info back of the dealer in reply to my emails which is a little off putting.

It has a full akrapovic system installed which is a mega bonus but there is no original system or baffle so getting an MOT maybe an issue.

Also I asked if the GB Racing engine covers were included as some photos show them fitted and some don't and there was no mention of them in the description. The dealer said he would throw them in, but had removed the clutch one as it was scuffed. I said that worries me that its had a tumble even if only slight one. The dealer said the guy he bought it off claimed to buy them second hand off ebay and they were scuffed when he bought them. That maybe true but I'm suspicious as why would you have an absolutely mint stunning bike and buy damaged accessories for it ? Especially when a brand new gb racing clutch cover is only about 50 quid.

Am I write to be paranoid ? Or just an innocent thing to happen and adequately explained ?

Think I would leave it. I find it hard to believe someone would fit scuffed sliders to their pride and joy. I wonder if the dealer removed them to hide the fact they were scuffed.?

What Duke says, move on. You don't want to be buying a bike if there are any doubts about it. At the very least you'll need to explain to the next buyer why there's no OEM exhaust.

Pretty stupid of dealer to advertise a mint high end bike with damaged crash protection. It could be completely innocent but it's a risk. If he was switched on he would have removed and I and others would have been none the wiser.

Thinking a bit more why did the previous owner not just bin them and then all doubt would be gone. Seems strange to trade a bike in with damaged crash protection.

I've sold marked crash protection in the past but each time it's been bought by track day riders who don't care about the appearance.

It may be that this bike was used as a track bike and the owner put race plastics on it. The road fairings went back on when he decided to sell it but he left the crash protection on.

Strange as I didn't struggle to insure my RSV4 but it was north of £700, be interesting to see now how much one would be ?

Sounds as if the previous owner has put crash protection on, and dropped it at some point afterwards, also damaging the standard exhaust - which was replaced with the Akrapovic that's currently fitted, my guess is that if you look carefully you'll find a replaced clip on and lever as well.

Definitely a walk away though, if the dealer had been up front about it all, that's one thing, but him being evasive is ringing warning bells in my head....

All this talk of RSV4 has had me looking again, some of the APRC models are coming down nicely in price I think in maybe in a year or more I will be dipping my toe in the RSV4 market . due to current circumstances unfortunately just not at the minute.

Just did a quote on a 13 plate Factory.. £2180 from MCE then only one other quote for £8100 !!!

Cheers for the advice lads much appreciated. The rsv4 is too far to go and visit but sounds like too much of a risk and possibly been down at some point. Shame as lovely bike (blush)

I'm away with work currently and then off on holiday soon so test rides may be difficult to arrange in the near future but thinking I need to get out on a s1000rr, new R1 and a 1299 Panigale asap as a comparison.
