Not bad crap for a while!!

After the race in August I've been a slack arse exercise wise and not really caring what I ate. As such I've put on 7 kg (15 pound) since August. So back to basics, calorie and fat intake monitoring and restricting the grog back to 2 days a week.

I'm fine flying. My only problem is being unable to sleep on a plane.

Never have the food on the plane, just don't feel comfortable if you've got some stranger next to you all elbows while you're trying to eat, different if you're on the plane 17 hours tho.
I get knocked down but i get up again.

I eat all the time on the plane, which is a fair bit as its how I get to work. The meals are to tiny and the quality is hit and miss with Qantas but it gets me thru.

YORKSHIRE PUDDING!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone....I thought I'd do a trial run at making Yorkies tonight, as I haven't made them in about 15 years, and if memory serves last time I tried they went down about as well as a Stuka at a Remembrance Day parade.

I researched the mix guide real quick on the web - 1/3 cup flour, 1/3 cup milk, to every egg.....seems easy enough, except the wife-elect has moved all my measuring cups, and any inquiries to their whereabouts is met with a blank stare and a less than helpful "Que??"...I'm living in Fawlty Towers!

So I go it off the cuff, heat my baking dish to 400F with a 50/50 mix of vegetable oil and butter on the bottom, and gingerly pour my batter into the bottom....

SUCCESS!!

That sucker ballooned up to about 8 inches high (That's like 20cm or sommit to you guys).....came out absolutely perfect. I'm a keen cook, but that doesn't make me a good cook...I'm passable at best....I've never had a dish, any dish, turn out just so spot on....so I ate half, with some turkey gravy....and then I went back and ate the other half!!
So I'll be treating my girls to some Yorkies at todays dinner....serve it as an appetizer, the way it's supposed to be....thinking of upping the butter mix, as you could really taste it, and I'll do it with a beef gravy.

Yeah, you can't beat a good Yorkie Pud.

Next week you'll have to introduce them to Toad in the Hole.

I don't like eating that close to others as well. However on the way to Dubai I had no one next to me so that was a bonus but on the way to Perth it was full. I fell asleep and woke up due to turbulence my belly was all over the place thought I was going to be sick but I went back to sleep and woke up a hour or so later feeling fine

Just to note don't ever get I'll on a plane of car think it was just down to it being a long time sitting down and not be aware it was bit bumpy that made me feel a bit ill haha

Oh definitely...my late Mom's toad-in-the-hole is my favorite dish of all time.

I've been trying to get the girls used to more English-style food.....hitherto they've pretty much stuck with Mexican food....I don't dislike it...well, not all of it,,,,,but it can be REALLY starchy.
I did them a basic mixed grill the other day.....steak fries, fried egg, baked beans (I'd have preferred peas, but they can relate better to beans), pork chop, sausage & veal chop.

Man they frickin' wolfed it down....was defo a big hit...next stop, black pudding.

Proper black pudding with herbs in is very special. Supermarket cheap stuff is vile.

Seconded on the Toad in the hole, outrageously big Yorky puds and Black Pudding - all food of the Gods, as a southern softie I missed out on black pudding as a kid, but got a taste for it along with mushy peas after travelling the country. Fortunately I haven't developed a taste for curry sauce or gravy on my chips, so my southern credentials haven't been completely eroded. ;)

Btw, Barnsley chop, Lamb or pork? Or can it be either?

A Barnsley chop has to be lamb.

And I like gravy on my chips. Pie, chips, peas and gravy. Proper comfort food.

(music) "Beer & sex & chips & gravy". (music) .....The Macc Lads - wise men.

I love gravy on my chips...curry sauce, not so much....I only tried it recently, but it's not bad.....Tesco does these little jars of ready-made curry that are pretty good. I'm really only good for the mild ones....I think it's "Korma".

Korma isn't a curry. It's some yoghurt with colouring in it.
