Tyres for a big bike

What do people recommend?

I need something for the z1000sx. I mostly commute but I'm happy to use it on the weekends. It won't be going on the track :D

Ideally it's a tyre for all weathers and good mileage. I don't want something that'll square off too quickly or tear.

Roadamart, pilot road, z8 I would go with which ever has the best deal available.

I would try the Michelin PR4s, Pirelli Angel GTs or the Metzeler Z8s. All good tyres for all weathers. I would say the Angels are the sportiest, the PR4s best for wet and cold and also longest lasting and the Metzelers somewhere between the two.

I can vouch for the Angel GT's, I was surprised at the grip they had and the wear. I started on a tyre (NZ trip) that had 2.5K (Kms) on it, and a big chicken strip. After day two I'd erased all of the chicken strip and rang the hire dude to ask how I'd go about getting a new tyre. He told me I wouldn't need one. I made it my mission to prove him wrong. He was right. NZ roads are renouned for being tyre eaters but the Angels had only about half wear by the end of my 3,200 km. I only rode in the wet the once, and it was atrocious so I never pushed them. The only time they slid on me was hitting gravel patches mid corner and they grabbed back immediately they had tarmac. As for feed back, I'm in Perkles camp, I'm not really sure. All I know is they gave me confidence.

This is the tyre after 7 days and around 2,700 km of my ride

Sounds an impressive tyre kiwi. If I had a multi or sx I reckon the angel GT would be the tyre to have after reading your comments.

Forgot to say, the guy I hired from uses the Angel GT's on all his hire bikes. So that must say something for the confidence he has in their grip and wear. And by the look of his track bike he's no slouch.

That's a couple of years old

With Pirelli being the OFFICIAL tyre brand of the MCE British Superbike Championship, they have a fantastic offer running all the way through the 2013 BSB race season.

Mike has offered the ST with a 190/55 rear fitted for £210 or the GT for £240.

Bridgestones seem to be very expensive at the moment.

Not looked at PR4 prices. I've asked Michelin for a pair for a long term test :D No reply as yet.........
