Re: My next rocket ship
Just to update ...
My shopping list has changed I have had a discussion with the Mrs and I have the green light to get a ................. 899
Great found one at a decent price and setting up to go and view/buy this Thursday
I then rang ducati Manchester to book a test ride to make double sure its what I want and on the phone I get told we have had an email from ducati saying they can not longer order any more 899's. The dealer believes this is due to them updating/bringing a new model out.
I now don't know what to do ......
Buy the 899 which is pretty much 10k I'm worried that it will drop in value if there's a big update on the new model. the market is also quite sparse of bikes and if there's a influx of used bikes it may drop there price.
So do I wait till October/November and see what they have up there sleeve or just buy one thoughts on a post card to "I hate buying a new bike"

Re: My next rocket ship
I honestly cant see them replacing the 899 as its not long been out, but I guess you never know.
Maybe give Ducati UK and ask them if there is a replacement 899 due any time soon.

Re: My next rocket ship
I'm not looking to make money but at the same time I don't want to loose a couple of grand. The dealer said they may up the capacity of the bike. not sure what they will do just wanted other peoples opinion.

Re: My next rocket ship
If Ducati won't take orders I would expect an update but the changes will be small revisions rather than big changes. 10k is a good price for a clean 899. I assume that's private sale as the dealers are keeping prices for used 899s pretty high so I don't reckon they'll drop much.

Re: My next rocket ship
It is Andy the second hand market is being kept strong by the dealers only selling at rrp. The dealer said he has customers waiting for bikes that he now can not full fill. Maybe a bit of marketing blurb.

Re: My next rocket ship
I would see it as marketing blurb personally.
Ducati always update bikes incrementally, from year to year.
For example the 996R had a 998cc engine before a 998 bike existed. Its common for features that appear on the S model to be on the base model the next year etc...
Unless there changing capacity to a 949 or 999 or something similar to which nothing has been leaked to the press and I suspect it would have been if true, then personally I would imagine its just small tweaks to the existing a 899.
Duke is the man to ask as he has his finger on the Ducati pulse better than most dealers
As Andy says dam good price for a clean and tidy 899 and you could always use the rumour of a replacement to drive the price down further if you tell the seller he needs to sell asap before his bike de-values overnight.

Lol. I actually asked Duke that very question on another thread. Think he said he expected it to get the newer dash and a few other updates. Fwiw I love the 899 clocks.

Re: My next rocket ship
It will get the 1299 fairing and tail. They are different to the 1199 and 899.
It might get an autoblipper, a new screen and a slightly revised engine. Its difficult to see there being much more than this to be honest.
But.....................

Re: My next rocket ship
First off go out and try one, see what you think.
If you like it, get it. I never own a bike worrying about the next owner or the resale value.

Re: My next rocket ship
Be careful Rocket, Test riding Exotica = Guaranteed Purchase
If its a good bike at the right price I would go for it. The 899 will have minor updates every year or two just as every other Ducati sportsbike has for the last 20 years. At some point you have to jump in

Re: My next rocket ship
The 1299 superceding the 1199 doesn't seem to have affected used 1199 prices too much.
If there is a new 899 i cannot see there being much change over minor bodywork changes.
I think Andy test rode the 899 at Woods in Abergele which means you are already on the edge of the best Welsh roads.
