Blade wrote:Yes I have Duke but its a live long ambition to own a 911. There are better performance cars for the money arguably, there is certainly cheaper and perhaps better value performance cars but I have a list of one unfortunately and it has to be a 911 for me. Other think which is more a nice to have than anything else is the 911 allowsmy whole family to enjoy the purchase. My wife wants to drive the car, my kids want to be passengers, i want to have family days out and dirty weekends away in it but most of all i just want to thrash it (raaar) Thanks for the suggestion though.
Have you driven a 911 Blade? I've driven both the new 911 and Boxster/Cayman recently and if your dead set on a 911 then don't drive a Cayman... It's the better car IMO. Saying that I was going to buy a Boxster until I drove the F-type... :D

The main thing the 911 has in its favour is that it's a 2+2 and the kids will fit, but only just. If your 6ft plus then the rear seats are only good for a couple of overnight bags tbh :? Cracking car mind.

There is a lot of choice out there for the money and frankly it really depends on your own dreams and preferences as they are all very very good tbh.

Yes I driven a 911 but not a Cayman and perhaps I shouldn't as you and many others say its arguably a better car than a 911.

I really need to scratch this life long 911 itch though after which i will either become a 911 nut or just get it out of my system and buy something else.

My kids are 7 and 4 so pretty much ideal 911 rear passengers. I really fancy a clean Gen 2 997 ideally a 3.8s but would be happy with a 3.6 if its the right car with the right spec.

I always loved the old taga top ones. Like the white one Arnie drives in Commando. That and the speedsta.

I've got a friend who has been going through the same dilemma for a couple of years but every time he goes to look at one the running costs and potential repair bills scare him away.

I can't remember which model it is but haven't Porsche just replaced all the engines in a batch of their cars due to a potentially serious fault?

Perkles is the person to speak to about the 911. He bought an old one and ended up rebuilding his.

Come on lads you know me better than this. I've done my research, read the technical journals, trawled the forums, talked to dealers, independents and owners, read the books and magazines I m up to speed on what I want and need. In fact I'm a complete 911 anorak.

So... Targa4. What do you reckon? Rarest and best one IMO. Turbo is nice too but very looney performance (devil)

Carrera 2 or 2s manual not a fan of the targa personally Cookie, sorry mate.

I have thought about a turbo and although most of the gen1 problems don't exist in the turbo I'm still leaning heavily to a naturally aspirated c2 or c2s. Pure drivers car and seems a good place to start my Porsche experience.

997s suffer from bore scoring but Porsche won't admit it,my mate owns specialist vehicle preparations who modify a lot of caymans for the money they are better cars IMHO

Bore scoring scare story's are related to gen1 997 and I will be looking at gen2 but thanks for the heads up.

Cayman may be a better car in some peoples opinion but is also suspectable to bore scoring and ims problems unless gen2 but besides all that I want a 911 simple as really.

I m not worried about bore scoring but there also lots you can do to prevent it from occuring in the first place.

My mate rebuilds a lot of just out of warranty 997s if you can get down here one day on the bike we could go in and have a chat with him.NO better sports car you can chuck the kids in the back of ,tour Europe ,thrash it around a track than a 911 .They are mega cars and really get under your skin

I can understand wanting the 911, it's always been the car I promised myself if I ever had the money to throw at it, I know its a ass-backwards Subaru, but there something of the old fashioned german efficiency about it, plus I did a paper round as a early teen and one of my calls was to a house with a gorgeous orange 911, I lusted after it every day, I'm afraid my parents Mk2 Cortina didn't cut it after that. :D
