Bed shopping- an ordeal

Post by DaytonAndy »

I can't believe what a hateful experience shopping for a bed is! Car salesmen have nothing on the majority of bed sales people. The moment you step in the showroom you feel five separate pairs of eyes settling on you ready to pounce so you head off at an angle to avoid them but there's always another one waiting to pounce that you haven't seen. They then proceed to talk you through a bewildering array of beds made 'exclusively for them' and the even more bewildering sale options that are always 'ending today' and then I walk out. As far as I can tell all the manufacturers make beds for all the different retailers on top of the beds they make for independents and themselves. As a result there are twenty slightly different variants of the same bed just with a different name that vary in price massively. (gah)

Bring a duvet and the wife and tell them you need to properly test each one ;)

We just go M&S. Good quality without the hassle and not always as expensive as you may think. Every few months they always have a sale on in the furniture department normally with at least 20 % to 30 % off and often available on 0% finance.

Much as absolutely completely and utterly detest the experience, you can't go far wrong with IKEA beds. We've had the same one for about 7 years and the mattress is still going strong. It's had a fair bit of hammer to!

Make it simple guys just order online. You get a guaranteed delivery slot and 2 guys carry the bed upstairs for you, unpack it check it all for you, job done.

Standing on the bed naked, shouting " who wants to spoon with me? " always gets you a discount.

All beds are basically the same, it's the mattress that makes the difference, work out if you want soft, medium or hard and with/without a foam topper and order online as per Blades suggestion. Then tell your other half to sort out a headboard, the wrist restraints are optional btw. ;)

Ahhh.....takes me back a while. You can't go wrong with a Remploy....make by the disabled under govt. subsidy...best value out there and you get a top-notch mattress at what admittedly is slightly above average in price, but top quality nonetheless...figure you spend a third of your life sleeping, so it's money well-spent.

Yes they did, we used to use them for various sub manufacturing projects, low cost labour, and quality work.
