No idea. Me and the current partner can't work together so I can't see me going back.

I applied for a job internally, but wasn't considered for it (no idea why not). But they put me forward for another job as a junior assistant to someone who has been doing the job for 4 years. I made it clear at the start of the interview I wasn't interested but did the interview anyway as it was good practice for everyone.

I heard nothing from HR (at this point I didn't know I wasn't considered for the job I applied for)

A couple more chasers and still nothing, so I emailed one of the partners in HR. She insisted an email had been sent to me at the start of October. It hadn't. We can trace every single email ever received. It wasn't there. I asked for a copy, which she sent. It was addressed to Ryan. I've no idea who Ryan is.

Yesterday I get a message from someone in our department asking me if I'm looking forward to the swap. She's fit so I was hoping it was a wife swap thing arranged behind my back. She works for a partner who does EL/PL work (which is what I specialise in). She's not been getting on with him. So I'm going to swap with her for 3 months to see how it works out.

I know the partner, we've worked together in the past at a previous law firm. When he left the last law firm I took over some of his files so I know how he operates. He does the work I like doing and he likes to leave his assistants to just get on with the job rather than micro-manage them.

So I start a 3 month experiment at the start of December.
Worth a go thats for sure.

What happens if you like the swop and fit lady doesnt?

Takes the pressure off for a few months for sure (y)
Sounds like you and the partner will gel well. Once your in be harder to prise you out. and if she doesn't get on with him, sounds like she won't push hard to get back. Hopefully she and the micro manager you work for now get on.

Good luck!

Great news mate. Fingers crossed it works out well, if not it's a 3 month break from the current crap so all good either way.

Judging from your recent posts, any change has got to be worth a shot Kwacky.
Let's hope the swap works out well for all parties.

This is what I've had to deal with. This is just an example of the email exchanges I have between my boss and me.

thanks Richard but can't see final bill checklist on tracker - form says it was done on 18.08.20 but can't see it could you send across so I can sign please
thanks
R

Hi

The final bill checklist was done back in December last year. It's on tracker 03.12.19.

Thanks

Richard

Ok thanks sign the form and get closed this week by Mxxx please

Hi

The file was final billed last year. WIP is nil so there’s no need to sign another final bill request form

You need to sign the file destruction authority which is on tracker dated 18.08.20. I sent a copy to you 02.11.20. I can send it again if you wish?

I can’t sign the destruction form as it’s not my file. It has to be signed by the fee earner whose name the matter is in.

Richard

Hi
I didn’t ask you for another final bill request form but the destruction form.
I have signed that now
Thanks
R

Hi

There’s been some confusion. Your earlier email says

thanks Richard but can't see final bill checklist on tracker - form says it was done on 18.08.20 but can't see it could you send across so I can sign please
thanks
R

Which is why I thought you wanted that instead of the destruction authority.

Apologies.

Richard

But then you told me you’d done it last year
Anyway its sorted

I CBA to rely to the last one. It makes no sense to me.

That email exchange is how I've been living my working life for the last couple of years.

I have zero interest in her or her files. I really can't be arsed to do anything else for her. There's no point. She spent 15 minutes this morning telling me how my opinion about a technical point on costs was wrong. I had to point out it wasn't my opinion, it was the opinion from the head of our costs team (she hadn't seen the email exchange on the file). No apology, nothing. She just told me to send her the emails. There's no winning. Even when I catch her out she just does a Johnson and starts warbling about something else like the first point was never mentioned.

So yes. I'm looking forward to my new role.

That email exchange is a thing of the past for me now days.... If it starts getting like that I just pick up the phone.... Hate emails for that very reason. I know, I know, when you dont want to speak to the person in the first place...... however even with people I dislike, a phone call sorts out a lot of wasted time (mine( on someones else's incompetence.

I'm the opposite. I have to have email conversations so I've got a record of what was said. She's tried to pull the "I didn't say that" in the past.

I hear ya..... I still have to email to confirm, again otherwise people dispute they even said what they did!!! But my phone calls are to short cut the bloody long email string of bull crap..... and bloody mindedness.

I feel your pain... however it will all be an unpleasant memory very soon 8)

No, usually only 6 months. I guess it shows the level of investment into the project by HSBC.
