Fantastic news Kiwi (party)

What have I been doing with myself today? Playing lego with my cheap cage up until the point where the lower arm would not separate from the ball joint, because the ball joint has so much play in it... 12 month MOT on this turd! And then I saw the lower arm bushings at full droop, disgusting.

So my cheap econoturd was flung back together whilst I await a 41mm deep 6 point socket to unthread the ball joint from the hub (Upside-down compared to 99% of other cars on the road) and the replacement pair of arms and ball joints, the other side is just starting to go too.

The list
Ball joint - both
lower arm - both
Drivers outer CV joint
Passenger inner CV boot
Gearbox driveshaft seals - both

And I thought the knocking was the top mounts so I have a pair of those to fit too. When I initially checked for the knock the car was on steel ramps, so the suspension was still loaded with the car's weight holding the ball joints firmly together (doh) That's what 15 years off the tools has done, I need more practice and it looks like this car will give me that.

Taking it to a garage for all that might be fun, for them but not for my wallet so I'm going to do it myself, if I could borrow a 2 post lift it would be way faster then scratting about on the concrete.

But there is some good news released today. By the time I do my next swing at work, there will be no international quarantine for return Australian citizens who are fully vaccinated... so no more quarantine coming home!!

On the trip up, as of the 15 Dec (also just before my next swing) the company plans to have its new Vaccinated Covid Policy in place and even coming from a hotspot, i'd only do one or two nights quarantine till I gave a negative result and then I'd be straight out to work. From a non-hotspot, just straight out to work like the good old days.

Unfortunately not all the States are aligned so we can't just all move back to the old roster straight away, but by 1st quarter next year we should be back to 3 on 4 off 3 on 5 off.....wahoo!
Great news mate.

Ordered some final bits ready for giving the car a thorough seeing to on Sunday. Full exterior decontamination, protection strip and application of a "5 year" sealant.

HGV CPC up in Leeds this afternoon, should be interesting to see how it differs from the PSV version I already have.
If I was 2 year's older my current CPC would cover both.

Edit

The mod 4 is a test with a pass or fail.
Out of a possible score of 100 my score is 100 8)

I lay on the bed yesterday after my shower to check my phone. I fell asleep for 4 hours. I think that cold really wiped me out

Halfway through my last stint of quarantine.. really be glad when this is done. 7 weeks has been far too long.

Relearning some old mechanical skills, changed both lower wishbones and ball joints on my Citroen C4 and the drivers side outer CV joint. As well as the passenger side inner CV boot and drive shaft seal on the gearbox, so a full gearbox oil change too.

Add to that a couple of silly mistakes and the rubber mounting grommets for the airbox and that was my day. French design means the airbox needs the wipers and scuttle panel off to even see it, and ball joints that screw into the hub... Naturally a 41mm socket is needed, which then needed modifying.

The 2nd ball joint broke my brand new ball joint splitter so I had to go caveman on it with my biggest hammer and a blowtorch.

Quite an enjoyable day for me, I got much more of a sense of achievement than my day job.

Had a better night's sleep last night, so actually felt ok this morning.

A trip to the dentist to have a broken tooth removed quickly dampened early positivity for the day.

The positive vibe was quickly resorted a couple of hours after the appointment when the neurofen plus kicked in Image so spent the afternoon wondering aimlessly round the local countryside with the camera.Image

When I first spotted the bird it was on the ground eating, as it saw me it took to the air. After circling for a bit it returned to the ground and grabbed what was left, and that was this shot.
