Source: Bloomberg And as we exit 2014, the Saudi oil minister told the FT this morning that "the world may never see $100 a barrel oil again", and warned that even if oil falls to $20 a barrel, Opec will not cut production. If there were any doubts before, it's crystal clear now – we've got a good old-fashioned price war on our hands. The Saudis are determined to put their rivals across the world, particularly in the US shale fields, out of business. A lower oil price is good news for consumers. But an uncontrolled plunge is bound to rattle financial markets. Because as Jared Dillian of Mauldin Economics puts it: "when markets move fast, stuff blows up".

The money men cant lose can they? Things get very expensive then markets react and they win. Things get too cheap then markets react and they win.

What a load of bollox. The bankers should all have been put in prison for fraud 7 years ago.

I read a good article last week about the way in which oil producing countries can change the fortunes of countries by controlling oil prices.

Russia is likely to implode if the oil price remains low and the UN sanctions remain in place.

Take a look at this old news article http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/644028.stm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; There was alarm then at it going over $30 a barrel. In the early 80s it hit $50 but in 2007 or 8 it went over $130 a barrel.

There's no reason for the price changes other than the seller controlling the market.

Using that graph and where the current oil price is I would like to see petrol, diesel and domestic gas prices fall to where they were in 2004 (y) which is about as likely to happen as me wining Motogp next year (n)

If house prices could fall at the same rate that would be even better.

I dunno mate....how does that work?? The whole thing seemed like a co-opted mess to me....the gas prices, the house prices....everything skyrocketed out of control, and everyone tried to get in on the action....I know people who made millions, and then promptly lost it all.....not their fault of course, God forbid....it was the bank's fault....like the bank made them sign anything??

Your regular is not the same as ours it has a lower octane. We stopped using tractor engines in the 50s

No it doesn't ....we simply use a different system of gauging octane ratings.....you use MON, we use AKI, because we're better than you. :)

Different doesn't mean better, and in fact it's almost like the US couldn't make up their mind on wether to use RON or MON so the went "feck it, lets take an average" because AKI (Anti Knock Index) is RON+MON/2

I guess having a Cert IV in Petrochemical Processing Technology has finally come in handy |-)

And I want oil to go back up, protects my job. Plus the shares the company gave me earlier in the year as a retention bonus have tanked! :P
