How Many Fingers

Post by Tuffers »

When riding how many fingers do you use? When I see pictures in MCN or some other mag I see some riders riding with one finger on the clutch and one on the brake. I'm thinking there's no way you can pull the clutch in with one finger (I need 4). One fingered braking? One slip of the finger and you're no longer braking. I ride with no fingers on the clutch or brake. I'll brake with 2 fingers and clutch with 4. Is this one finger on the levers just a pose thing for the camera saying look at me I can ride?

It depends. In traffic I cover both levers with a couple of fingers. Fast riding just one finger on the brake

The fingers covering the levers could be a being brought up on a 2 stroke thing?

@duke63 my mate has 2 fingers on his right hand. He lost most of his hand in an accident at an abattoir. He rides and full respect to him.

Two or four on clutch, one or two on brake. Oh the old two stroke, full hand always over the clutch lol

Four on each here.

I think there's a lot of basis to that observation Tuffers.
I always cover the clutch, & yes having had a number of engines tuck on me (most, but not all 2t) I think I probably always will.
However I always use " a full handfull" of brake lever, because when I started riding you really needed that to extract the required stopping power. Fwiw I don't even like riding with shorty levers, because I feel I won't have enough to purchase on.

Note: I'm NOT saying my attitude is correct*, just mitigating my mindset with it's origin.

4 on the clutch (when it needs to be used) and 2 on the brake.

That's the way I was taught and it's stuck. I will admit that most of the breaking force does really come from a single finger though, the brakes on the BMW are so good not much pressure is needed.

2 on each.. except when going into first when in neutral then it's all 4 to avoid the crunching.

A lot of varied answers here. You must be a strong lad Cav. I'd struggle to pull the clutch in with 2 fingers.

I think I've just gotten used to it. I certainly can't 1 finger brake or 1 finger clutch. I like the sense of control I have with my smallest 2 fingers on the grip, it helps avoid arm pump
