I lead ..... ;)

I think it makes sense. Loads of people have done the adventure bike thing but probably realised they're not using them in the way they've been designed. The most I did with my ATAS was some gravel roads and local farm tracks. The only reason I sold it was because of my shoulder. But I openly admit I was never going to go fully off road with it.

Adventure bikes aren't the easiest to ride. The Honda was very tall, heavy and had a 21 inch front wheel. Now I'm happy to ride anything. I had some great days on the Honda. But I can see how some riders would struggle using a big adventure bike all the time

There's a lot of bikes out there so there's plenty of choice. There's so many models now there's blurring of lines. Quite a few blur the lines between adventure and sports tourer.

I don't know what my 900XR is, other than a fun middle weight.

BMW have it and it's 1000cc hooligan brother in the Adventure section, with the 17" front wheel and Road 5 tyres a gravel track is about it's limit.
I'm going for a more comfy sports tourer, I find it quite flickable and it claims a 200 mile tank range, I believe that.

Funnily enough 2 of my friends who currently own Adventure bikes are both looking very closely at the new Suzuki GSX-S1000GT.

Well the new Honda NT1100 is a complete let down. 100bhp and weighing near 240kg.

Bland is certainly apt.

I think they’re a good choice, easy to rag about on the country lanes, then put on the luggage and off to wherever you want. It’s all about personal choice in the end. I bought the tracer 9GT after the test ride, very comfortable which was important I have problems with both shoulders. And to be honest I’ve never owned a Yamaha so that swayed me a bit, and I thought £12k for a bike with all that it does wasn’t bad.
I’m over sports bikes now and the ‘sports tourer’ is certainly a good compromise, well for mr anyway.
