Back on a Kwak

I've part-ex the ATAS for a new 1000SX Ninja, in back and green, with a few extras. Nothing special, just some kawasaki heated grips and paint and bodywork protection.

I got on really well with my old SX. The new model feels a lot like it, but more refined and slightly sportier. The engine spins up freely and the power delivery is very linear.

It's not got the looks nor the road presence of the Honda, but as an all-rounder and for the price it's very hard to beat.

I've got a pretty good deal from Cradley Kawasaki. They're an old school dealers. The salesman I dealt with was very friendly and not pushy. He went in with his best offer which I can respect - no messing about.

They're busy at the moment and some of the bits I've ordered are on back order so I'm not sure when I'll get the bike. They might let me have it in a few days then it can go back when I need parts fitting.

It gets really good reviews. The test ride on Saturday sealed it for me

Happy for you mate.. You and the SX are like Frankie and the S1000R - inseperable.

I'm not waiting for the insurance company to get back to me. It's never good when they need to speak to a manager/underwriter.

It seems that Kawasaki changing the bike from Z1000SX to 1000SX Ninja is causing problems. The "ninja" has boosted it up a couple of levels on the insurance ladder.

Insurance paid

They've told me that a tracker or an alarm makes no difference to the premium for this bike, so that's £300 saved.

Look forward to seeing it. Sat on one when I took the Z out for a test ride, very comfortable and felt like a good all day riding position.

Did cross my mind that it could be a replacement for the XR next year.

A relaxed ride home. I've been advised to try and keep it under 4,000 revs for the first 200 miles and but go much above that until the first service.

It does feel like being back at home. It's like the old sx but more refined. It's sportier; the pegs feel slightly higher and the bars seem to be swept back a bit more. The engine is a lot lot smoother and spins up really quick.

I'll fit the db screen later. Paddock stand bobbins and tank protectors are on order.

It needs an exhaust, it's too quiet.

There's heated grips, radiator guard and front fender extender on order with Kawasaki.

Smart looking bike.

Does it have any luggage?

I've not bothered with luggage this time. I barely used the panniers on the ATAS and the Versys.

I've got an Oxford tail pack. It's the one I used on the last sx when we went to France.

I might look at a top box.
