The right to protest

Has pretty much gone.

People can be prevented from going to places or ordered to surrender at a police station without ever having been convicted of a crime.

Fascism in motion.

Beginning of the end if this gets through.

The only hope is a change of government and some reversal of all this crap.

We need a Revolution. Time to burn the Parliament down and start again.

Within reason, I honestly don't see anything really out of line with what's being proposed.... if what I'm reading in the OP is accurate.
The obligatory Fascist comparisons probably aren't helping matters, TBH.

I don't think you've read the article.

So it's ok to insist someone submits themselves to a police station at a time, date and location decided by the police even if someone has done nothing wrong?

yes they do it for bail reporting etc , before you have been to court .

Fascist comparisons might not help, but it doesn't make it not fascist. We've been slipping slowly into it for many years in many countries all over the world and the parallels with the 30s are right in front of your face. You've only got to look at old newspaper headlines and compare them to today.

Fair comment Jack, but police bail is usually set when someone has been charged or there's an ongoing investigation. If you're charged you go to court and bail conditions are reviewed. AFAIK certain bail conditions have to be met before bail is set.

This new legislation goes further than setting bail conditions on a suspect.

I have read the article, and I don't get the impression that someone is just randomly pulling names out a hat to have various people report to a police office on a certain date & time for no reason at all.

Isn't that the point? its not random.

Its those who disagree with Government policy and wish to protest against it.

I see a pro royalist got arrested and detained for 15 hours on Saturday for standing too close to the protestors.

North Korea would be proud

Just saw a news story on an Aussie chick that happened too. She’s lodged an official complaint.

She was released with no charge.

If that had happened in North Korea you might never see her again.....she'd be off to the salt mines, or a re-education camp or sommit.
A thousand lashes! (deadhorse)

Hopefully the police will be sued to stop it happening in the future.
