If you have got the brown connector between the v of the engine, I would 100% recommended getting rid of it. Its a well known problem.

I take it you've tried all the usual stuff like meths or WD40? I've got some of that tar removal stuff. That might be worth a shot.
Is it worth getting a hairdryer and heating it up to see if that helps?

I must be getting old as I don't like over loud cans. I have the baffle in mine as the can is so small it has limited noise attenuation and was too much when riding all day.
