... They quality is OK, obviously not as good as the big manufacturers but good enough for me. I looked at it from the point of view that there where so cheap it didn't really matter much if I didn't like them and just chucked 'em in the bin.

Have you reported it to the Police? Just to be on the safe side in case the plate is being used on another bike.
