Aprillia Mille 2002 Sprag clutch

Forgive my ignorance in technical knowledge but thought I'd ask just to help Mr BB
He's been looking at a friends Aprillia (he did tell him not to touch it with a barge pole) he bought is as it said it had all the trick bits known to man. 12k on the clock but seems most of that was full on track.
He took it to Aprilia performance and they did what they could to the power commander etc. Mr BB is quite a fan of AP
It kept cutting out then not turning over , his other mate said it needed a new battery even though they tried starting it from a jump pack and it still wouldn't spark. (Mr BB thinks this is where the problems really started)
He spent a few hours last night going over it and sand papering this and that and tools all over the workshop, he has said the last thing to try is to get a new sprag clutch as it whines when you turn it over .
Mr BB is a mechanic but if there are any other suggestions as 2 heads are better than one before mate has to pay money on this item I'm sure he'd be grateful. Looking last night they are about 200.00 . Although Mr BB can fit it for him, it does seem to add insult to injury.
Mr BB saw this particular bike as he was looking for one too but dismissed it due to all the mods, he prefers standard and do the work he wants himself.
After going on a forum it appears this bike has very little as standard so really wasn't for road use. I think his mate was a magpie in a former life as he got over excited at too much bling !!
