The Queen

Post by Kwacky »

I see there's been a short statement about her health. She's been told to remain at Balmoral and be under medical supervision.

It'll be the end of an era when she's gone, as I can't see Charles' tenure as being particularly prolific... and then after that.....?

Charles is 73 so if he does take the top job he won't be in it for long.

His mother has been Queen for a few decades now. It really will be an end of an era.

Well, commiserations to her family ( oh & Monty, of course ;) )

So, now it's King Charles 3rd.

I suspect that, whilst you may well be correct about the brevity aspect, his stance as ruler may prove "interesting".?

So, we've all been "Elizabethans" I suppose..?

What does that make this next epoc. Are all those youngsters who we see gradually taking their place in the world a bunch of Charlies.?

He can choose to be known by any of his four Christian names, apparently.....so King Arthur is not yet off the table. That would rock!!

Wouldn't it just be better to have it as planned and have a minute of silence before the game(s) start?

Yeah it would. A minute silence, a couple of verses of the national anthem and black armbands is more than enough.

The Queen loved sport. I really can't believe she would have wanted events to be cancelled

Did she really?? I didn't know that....I always thought she just showed up at sports events...or any event for that matter, because she had to be there rather than wanted to be there.
Just don't tell me she was a Millwall fan, that would really ruin it.

They need time to teach the players the new national anthem.

Will our Oaths of Allegiance now be null & void ? - If they are, there's going to be one hell of a lot of swearing.

I have watched a couple of "Our Queen" type tributes, as there is a lot on as you would imagine. I know she is not related to me, but I do feel a strange sense of loss and emotion, very strange.

The current banknotes, coins,...I'm sure a lot of signage, etc., will all have to be withdrawn/changed in the next year or so...I bet that's going to take a bit of work.

That doesn't sound right Dazzle, I remember quite well using coinage with previous monarchs long after Lizzie was made queen.?

There's no rush. It's legal tender until the Bank of England says otherwise.

The ceremony today means that the King essentially takes over everything from the Queen and visa versa, So StMarks your oath continues

Oh, I'm sure it's a gradual process, and the Royal Mint will have to gear up for it.... notes have a fairly finite lifespan...coins seem to last forever, as I also remember King George coins when I was a kid.
Postage stamps may well be one of the first, and easiest to switch, as they're single-use items.
