I thought the problem with Hydrogen was that, as Hydrogen is the smallest molecule in the universe, it is very difficult to contain successfully.

Its storage of hydrogen that is the problem. To get sufficient into a fuel tank it needs to be a minimum of 5000psi and kept cold.

It will take massive steps forward in technology for it to be viable for bikes i would have thought.

My step mum just bought herself an electric car.

My dad has had solar panels and 6kWh batteries installed and has calculations to say they should be able to run the house purely off solar for 9 months of the year and only effective charge the car from the grid.. it doesn't actually work that way but there's some clever stuff going on behind the scenes to maximise on the cheaper tariffs for type of energy consumption and time of day

A client has 4 Teslas as company vehicles and there are part of the day where the solar panels produce more energy than the poffices can use, so they chaarge the cars up for effectively nothing.

Its more than just theory it does work, but can you imagine Governments allowing us to travel for free for long?

Oh hell no. Smart meters will help them increase charging costs and road tax will become similar to in 2006/7 when an economical car would cost you £265 ish from memory

People are so used to the convenience of filling up with petrol, it has to change.

And that's going to be the hardest thing to change, and not only in travel as well.

We are used to an on demand lifestyle with instant gratification, this is the root of what needs to change.

It will be very difficult. We will need to get to a point where anything that is manufactured will need to be proven sustainable and recyclable before it goes to market.

In my opinion its a given that a some point we will all have a maximum carbon footprint to use which we can sell to others where we don't need it all.

Give me a decent option to driving and i would use it every time. I hate driving. There are far too many vehicles on the road now.

Totally agree the roads are far to congested, I like driving but only in empty roads at weird times when nobody is about

The reality is we cannot continue to live as we do. Consumerism will make life impossible for human life.

As so often happens, I utterly agree with you.
However imho imposing draconian & short sighted restrictions on the technology that future generations are permitted to utilise is daft. It is neither an adequate response to the damage we are doing, nor is it in any way addressing the underlying problem.

Government should be investing in clean cheap public transport for urban areas, not building new roads.
Then you make motoring expensive in urban areas.

Also vehicles that pollute more should be taxed more both on new prices and annual road tax.

I read an item about that....there was a guy doing a 1500-mile trip or something ridiculously long and he wasn't sure about the charging infrastructure, layover time while charging, etc.
I wouldn't say it was common practice.
