Raising interest rates will crash the economy. People are already struggling to pay the basics. It'll put lots of small businesses out of business.

Core inflation is up from 6.8 to 7.1% The highest since March 1992.

Services annual rate of inflation is up from 6.9 to 7.4%, which has an impact on mortgages and other debts.

Bank of England are expected to carry on with interest rises, which will have no impact as this is supply driven inflation, not demand driven. Rumours are a 0.5% increase. There's no communication at all between the BoE and the government.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) says net debt reached £2.6 trillion as of the end of May, estimated at 100.1% of gross domestic product (GDP).

Government borrowing soared to £20 billion in May, pushed higher by the cost of energy support schemes. May's borrowing figure was £10.7 billion higher than a year ago and the second-highest May borrowing since monthly records began in 1993.

Economists had predicted borrowing of £19.5 billion for May.

Funny how these issues are now coming to light as many PFI contracts come to their end. I wonder who will pay for the mess?? Oh yes you and me whilst those who made millions from PFI have it safely stashed in an offshore tax haven.

Perhaps it will illustrate the poor funding decisions that have blighted our public services, to the masses who seem to be blinkered.
The result of ^ that awakening to the reality of the problem, may well lead to the current incumbent loosing power.
However imho it will take more than a change of colour holding the reins to put the UK back on track..

No doubt they'll just blame the last Labour government for implementing John Major's economic policies. And for once they might be right, what kind of stupid would use financial mechanisms like PFI when the borrowing cost was so low?
