Some of you may have experienced this yourselves

Post by T.C. »

But earlier today I went for my annual cardio MOT to make sure that my medication was still as it should be.

Walk in and get told Heart is still working (Really? thinks me, I would never have guessed ;) ) Liver is good, Kidneys are OK, blood pressure is excelllent, pulse is fine and you have lost a few pounds since last year, well done.

But by the way, you now have type 2 diabetes........ Oh great thinks I.

Additional medication starts tomorrow.

On the plus side, my diet changed substantially after my heart problems started 4.5 years ago, so just some minor tweaks needed, more to do with quantity and a reduction of carbohydrates as much as anything.

Oh well. Slowly falling apart :(

I called my new GP as I've not been there since I moved in a year ago. Most places offer a check up for us middle aged types, especially when you've changed doctors. I was told by the receptionist not to bother unless I thought there was something wrong with me. I did point out that I'm not qualified to give an opinion n my health but she wasn't interested.

I'm surprised you've ended up with Type 2 if the rest of you is doing well.

Fwiw that was my thoughts too TC, especially in view of your having lost a few pounds. Seems counter intuitive & somewhat unfair.

At least your MOT was fairly positive overall, and keeping an eye on your blood sugars seems far preferable to you previous "little issue".?

It can be caused by a number of things.

It can be hereditary (My mother was a sufferer)
It can be caused by my knackered strawberry tart
It can be caused by weight (I am a few kilo's over my ideal weight)
It can be a side effect of my medication

Apparently there are other things that can cause it. I am just slowly ploughing through the reading material I was given, but the biggest cause is eating too many carbohydrates, namely potatoes and pasta which are high in carbs.

Nothing s banned, it just has to be eaten in modertation.

It is more to do with the portion size. 99% of my diet is already significantly changed from when I was taken ill 4+ years ago, so I just have to tweek it a bit and and continue to keep taking the pills.

When I said "Lost a few pounds" it literally was a few pounds. I am only down about 2kg on last year, but at least it is heading in the right direction.

What I don't want to do is fall to the 95kg I was at when I was discharged from Hospital. Althogh I felt good everyone kept saying how gaunt and ill I looked :(

But hey ho, such is life. I am still breathing.

When I don't wake up one morning, then I will start worrying ;)

Portion size is my big issue. I've got a healthy appetite.
