3.5 hours of CV writing and I've applied for the job. I don't think it's likely I'll get the job but if I can have a conversation with them that would be of significant benefit. Got to keep pushing that comfort zone.

I have heard many people say that about them which is reassuring, my FiL has also done landscaping jobs there and said how friendly they are compared with others.
For now I'm looking for jobs I can pedal to though as I don't want to buy another car and negate all the pay increase immediately. This one is pedal-able but also comes with a company van as it's subcon and I'd be out quoting.

I had the interview yesterday.
The good news is, the interviewer was the Managing Director and he definitely wants to hire me and made me an offer in person.
The bad news is, he understandably sees me as too inexperienced for the Engineer Manager role.
He's wanting to bring me in as a Supervisor, liaising with the 1 other supervisor to manage the skilled team in the warehouse and on the job. The crux of this was money and he saw it coming early on. I'd explained that I wasn't looking at the Engineer Manager role because it was a big bump in pay but rather a strong career move for my future. The current supervisor salary is 7k under mine but he put an offer on the table making it 4k under and with a company vehicle (which I wouldn't be paying toward).
I'm going to consider it for sure, but it isn't an overly easy decision to make because I do have to consider the short term too.

I think I’d be asking for them to at least match my salary. That and if progression is better I’d go for it.

It's never easy is it.
I guess you have to look at it in terms of longevity. Do you see yourself being happy there and wanting to stick about for a few years? If so is the career progression path you are looking for available, if it is then the money will probably catch up.
IMO if you answer yes to the above and you can handle the drop in salary for the time it takes to climb the ladder then it sounds like a good move.
I've just taken a sizable drop in salary, but for my overall happiness in life it's worth it.

You have clearly indicated that you are frustrated by the poorly managed aspect of your current employer.
However iirc the role itself you felt was appealing when you first went for it.
It is so much easier to know the in-s and out-s of somewhere when you are on the inside.
So, perhaps you should be wary of jumping ship (along with the reduced pay, and longer commute) as it too may have frustrations you are unable to foresee at this point.?
If you have both positions to weigh up, perhaps taking a long look at the stability of both companies in the current climate would be help identify a powerful influence behind moving or staying.?
If your current employer is as mis-managed as your recent posts seem to suggest, they may be heading for turmoil.?

In fairness the van wouldn't cost me anything as its a "pool van" to which I would permanently have to key.
