I noticed last night that the rear on the MV is looking pretty low on tread. The bike is 2015 and the tyres are OEM so they need replacing at some point, but given the limited mileage I'll do on the bike I was hoping to wait until next year and buy a new set. I reckon I'm looking at about £300 ride in ride out. There's no way I'm going to tackle taking the wheels off that bike myself.

The current tyres are Pirelli Rosso Corsa which are fine for the riding I do. There's loads of life left in the front and I've no issues with feel.

So, do I bite the bullet now and get a new set, knowing that the bike is going away in a few weeks and won't be out again until April next year.

Do I keep going with the current tyre and hope I don't see carcass before the season is out.

Or do I get a new rear corsa and worry about a new set of tyres another time? A rear looks pretty cheap.

Just replace the rear and fit a pair of conti sport attack 3 next year.... Or more likely on a summer bike, in 2021.

In all honesty I would buy a £60 scrub SC2 Supercorsa to see you through this year and get a new set in 2020

Cheaper, a bit more grip, and guaranteed no chicken strips

Buy now, and then it's over & done with.

I'm not a big fan of scrubs to be honest, especially for a road bike. I'm even less keen to go down that route if it means that the tyres would be mis-matched.

fair enough mate though I wouldn't be that concerned for a Rosso Corsa and Supercorsa simply because the corsa is such a steep tyre for a road tyre too. I also find I don't get heat into the Corsa as easily as I do into a Supercorsa.

Just my thoughts though and do what you feel comfortable doing

It's just me and scrubs. It seems a bit daft to put at risk an £8k bike for a tyre you don't know just to save a few quid.

Try the Rosso Corsa II. I've been very impressed with them and got around 4k and a track day out of the rear. 2K more than I was getting with the M7RRs.

FWIW, Monty.. trackdays didn't decrease my tyre life, they just improved my tyre wear.

I'd get 1000 miles and 2 trackdays from a Supercorsa or 1200 miles of road only riding. A trackday is about 100 miles for me

That would make sense Cav, I seem to get around 2k out of a rear regardless of brand, type or use. Which is one of the reasons I've been so impressed with the Rosso Corsa IIs.

Kwacky my honest opinion is to keep your original tyres if you really do mean a handful of weeks left (mid August) of riding your MV. You have 3 bikes and your MV is not a commuter so won't be used everyday. May as well buy fresh next year when season is coming rather than end of this season

But if your tyres are too close for comfort by the wear lines then protect your bike in any way you can and new tyres will protect it now

New tyres. You cant skimp on tyres and if you think they need replacing that's cos they probably do. Bite the bullet and invest in a new set you will 3 or 4 years out of them if only riding occasionally .

You're not getting value for money unless they look like this... Note: Value for money only applies to the centre section!

For that to add value, Pirelli would have to contribute to the forth coming medical costs
