WTF... EU4 exhaust.. Arrow no removable dB killer

Well just went to enquire about a new shiny Triumph Arrow can for the new bike . Looking a pics I was pretty sure I couldn't see screws around the baffle area.. so called up.

Apparently EU4 requirements state no removable baffle / dB killer.

So what's the point.. will this kill off the aftermarket exhaust purchase now?? If it sounds not different to stock I can't see the point unless just a weight saving. And (look).

I haven't looked at other options yet. But preferred the "triumph" arrowm.

Boooooo

My understanding is that it is an official Triumph supplied part so it must meet with Euro4 Regs.

However.....

If you buy an aftermarket can from someone else then the baffle should be removeable.

The baffle on my Scorpion can certainly comes out (rock)

I guess the official Africa twin Akrapovic would also lack the removable baffle too then

Or I'm confusing that with the KTM 1290

I don't think that's an official Honda after market part.

Yeah thought so. Must have been the KTM when I was looking at them.

Yep KTM approved Akrapovic cans take some effort to get the baffles out. Same with a friend's Z1000SX, got to remove the end caps to get the baffles out.

As stated, any approved aftermarket exhaust has to be homologated on the bike and therefore can not be tampered with, without permanent damage to the exhaust. Hence no more easily removable baffles. Only US spec silencers have removable baffles...

Arrow used to put a blob of weld on the baffle in addition to the screws so I suppose that little loop hole is now closed.

Yep. The rules are now that the exhaust must be irreparably damaged were the baffle attempted to be removed.

It is rubbish. For OE approved aftermarket exhausts.

After all the work you’ve gone to removing the baffles and you go past this.....

Yeah I saw that on Friday on the BBC where disappointingly they showed bikers riding through a village implying bikers were the problem. But for me its possibly a good thing as it will get the boom box, 6inch open exhaust, Nova brigade pulled up (swear)

Tbh I ride my bikes with the baffles in anyway as I don't like silly loud exhausts and you really wouldn't want the Ducatu any louder than it currently is with baffles in.

I read somewhere the Pani V4 is 107dba on stock oem cans and I notice my Pani V2 was way louder when I jumped on it back to back after riding the v4 on a test ride.

I'm not sure how they would enforce this. As the current noise test requires travelling through laser traps, so that they can record your starting and finishing speed. And you then need to accelerate on full throttle. You then do some calculations based on things like engine configuration and CC. Which gives you your permissable level.

Having random mics placed in areas where you aren't at these criteria (could be worse or better). means the results will not be comparative.

How will they differentiate between multiple vehicles passing the mic at the same time?
