New lid time, and this time I've chosen a manufacturer I've never previously considered. HJC.

The model choice is great and I was very glad of the help from the guys at helmet city for helping me narrow down the choice.

I'm very impressed with the overall quality of the lid, everything feels very well made and very well put together. Special call outs to the clear bits, the visor is a good size and the pinlock is excellent, virtually no visible lines when the visor is closed. The center lock is great, if a little fiddly when your not used to it.

The ventilation is excellent, even early am with half the vents closed there was no sign of condensation even on the sun visor. This was my major gripe about the GT air.

Noise levels are comparable to the GT air I had previously, so all good. Don't get me wrong, at 70mph you will be needing plugs but it's not deafening.

Minor early annoyance is that the visor ratchet isn't very strong so it's hard to keep the visor cracked open much past 40mph.

Let's see how it holds up to the abuse of commuting.

It sounds very familiar to me since I too moved from a GT air to the RPHA 70 carbon, over all I'm very impressed with it except the visor mechanism but it does have a clever trick, when you remove the visor the spring loaded latches at the sides lock back, when you re-install it they release and click in to place.
Nifty little detail, shame about the visor cracking but they replaced mine at 5 months old with no quibble at all. Just advice not to lift it by the latch.

Testing the dark visit today. 11/10 for the visor mechanism, I've never had a visor so easy to change.

It is easy to use but I've had to change mine for a new one as it stopped working after about a year.

I got the RPHA 11 and same mechanism for visor. Very good. But just a shame about the visor. Both of my orginals have cracked and I've had to replace one of them. I have learned now not to use the latch to pull up on now!

So not a good introduction to HJC.

As has been mentioned on the other thread, the weather today was not the best and there where some very evident issues with the new lid today.

I had previously commented to the guys in the shop that the visor felt kind of loose but didn't really give it too much thought into today. Cold as really heavy rain, conditions that will test a lid to its limits.

Within 20 miles I had to stop at some services to wipe the inside of the visor, and from there it got worse. I could barely see where I was going for most of the rest of the journey.

Took the lid to the shop and the guy confirmed there is an issue somewhere but he can't sort it. The visor isn't closing properly and even when it does it's not sealing at all on one side. To top it off the pinlock isn't sealing properly either.

On the plus side, it's being sent back to HJC tomorrow to get sorted out and either HJC or helmet city are providing a loan lid while it's gone.

Let's just hope this is a little blip and not a sign of things to come.

Disappointing as its a nice looking piece of kit. Let's hope they sort it to your satisfaction.

Let's hope the back up is better than the lid was.

That's a shame, not had any issues with my HJC, had a few now, well still have them lol.... summer days carbon lid, super light, and the touring all weather one with the internal drop down dark visor.

Hope they sort it, nothing worse than a lid you get rain in hence why I dumped my GT Air, nothing but hassle with water on the inside of the visor.

Lid is back and all sorted. Apparently they have a hard seal round the visor which needs to be cleaned a lot more often than in used to.

Bit of a thread resurrection, but worth an update.

The lid came back and with the weather on the French trip the performance was appalling. I had to ride with the visor cracked open in the rain as the airflow was crap and the pinlock was almost dripping with moisture.

They tested it and even though the visor didn't fit properly again they were adamant there was no fault with the lid. However, as it had been returned twice in as many months they offered a full credit.

I now have a RHPA 11 which fits much better, it's a little noisier but has much better ventilation. I've had to do without a drop down sun visor, but I have the space to carry a spare so I'm not fussed.

Seems like there are still some issues with HJC lids.

Good service but poor lid by the sound of it.

Good they gave you store credit. The RPHA is a cracking lid but that visor latch is crap and will crack no matter what you do. I have found no difference between doing it the, what they call 'right' way and what they call the 'wrong' way. Just be sure to have 50 notes every so often for a new visor. You will love the lid through warm weather the air flow is great

My HJC with the same catch mechanism is 5/6 years old and never broken.. the visor is in dire need of replacement too after all the cleaning I've done on it
