Yay radiator off. Broke a spigot and sheared a bolt doing it. But it's off. That's enough for tonight.


So. What am I doing?

I have an arrow 3 into 1 low boy to fit. My standard headers have split so bikes been unrideable for a bit. To take off headers the radiator has to come off. So figured may as well replace that as it looks pretty shitty.

I am thinking whilst I can get to the engine casing I'll give it a good scrub. And respray with pj1 engine case spray to try and improve the looks of it.

The engine cases are corroded too. So I'm on the look out for some...

I'll drop and replace the oil and filter.

I have brake fluid but don't fancy draining this on an abs system so might leave that for the dealer, and get him to put my rear machined reservoir on at the same time.

I bought some new brushes whilst at Sutton motorcycles to give my chain and wheels a good clean. I have new tyres to go on. But that will be a dealer job.

I have some new levers to put on. And I looked at the air filter and that's pretty shitty so will replace that once I've ordered one.

I will probably replace a few fasteners too. Most are ropey. I'll try and clean up what fasteners I can.

And then replace the front brake pads, giving to calipers and pistons a good clean.

And I think that's about it. Whilst it's stripped I'll
try and clean it up a bit. As I can get to places not normally possible now.

I don't think those pics come close to the old pic where your chain looked like you'd added about 40 links to it.

Can't get some header nuts off. Tried plusgas. But they keep rounding.
So just gone and bought an extraction set

Well nut extractor kind of worked.

So now I have a stud stuck in the crankcase

Well. Exhaust is off. 2 studs have snapped in the crankcase so not sure what to do about those. Think I'll need to get someone to drill them out.

Had to snap the headers to get them off too as couldn't seperate the system.

So if I can just get these studs out I can get the bike back on the road. While it's heavily stripped down I will start giving it a thorough clean.

Bought a little blow torch thing to heat up the studs. But still can't get the last 2 out. Looking at the threads of the others that came out they don't look corroded. So wondering if there is thread lock on them.

So think going to have to drill into bolts and use a stud extractor. Not sure even that will work though

These are bolts that came out. There's actually silver bits

Heating the stud will expand the stud and make it a tighter fit in the block, I.e the opposite of what you want to achieve. Also it would be extremely difficult to locally heat the block and not the stud, so its most likely they will both expand together at similar rates ( similar as steel and alloy will have different expansion rates) . To be honest I wouldnt heat an alloy block anyway if it were me.

Its a tricky job and if your not experienced or confident, D then with respect I would take to a professional. If you mess up drilling it could be expensive and you don't want that hassle.
