Nutz's VFR 800
Now there's a thread title I never in a million years thought I would see!!
So, after a dull train ride to Bristol and a slightly less dull ride back it's home.
And I actually quite like it, it wasn't a dull ride at all, it was actually pretty good fun.
Left the dealers in glorious sunshine and about 12-13 degrees, I was feeling quite warm stood about. The dealer had chucked a bit of fuel in, which amounted to about 1/3 of a tank, so I decided to scarper into the sun and make for home on the a roads. Only to run right into Bristol traffic .
So first points about the vfr. It's very good in town, the low down fuelling is great and the clutch is easy on the arm. The panniers however are as wide as Beyonce's arse, I'm convinced I clipped a car but there are no marks on the pannier and I don't remember any horn beeping... Fingers crossed..
Once out of town the bike really comes into its own. The pickup from 4k is smooth and it rolls gracefully up until 7k and the VTEC kicks in, then it's like flicking a switch as the power really arrives. I got no where near the red line, but I never needed to.
And while we're on the subject of the elephant in the room with these bikes, the VTEC. Yes it is horrible riding at 7k RPM with the VTEC on and off... So I've already learned, don't. Simple as.
I came back along the A4, a route Frankie and kingfixer will know well. The wind protection is perfect and the bikes agility at speed when taking the sweeping bends will annoy a lot of sports bikes.
It was dark when I got home so I'll grab some pics in the morning, but at the moment I'm feeling very happy with my choice. I also now know why am old mate of mine loved his VFR so much.

Nice colour... just like the one I saw every morning and was in awe of (admittedly, mostly due to the exhaust note)

This has still got the standard snorters on, so does sound a bit like a hairdryer. It's got a lovely induction roar when the vtec kicks in though.

Are you gonna keep an eye out for a cheap aftermarket set or are you not at all fussed?
It can be nice having a quiet exhaust but in the city I definitely prefer being heard by other road users from a safety point of view

I'm trying to find the exhaust that was on the VFR I loved but I can't.
Maybe it wasn't Micron. It wasn't obnoxious but it has 4 individual pipes under the seat. The pipes were in the same position as the stock but without the rest of the housing /baffle

I'm going to leave it standard for now, I rode back this morning an realised I'd forgotten to put my ear plugs in and it was fine. The KTM is unbaffled at the moment and to be honest, the down is a bit tiresome on dual carriageway's after a while.

Sounds like my MT-10 did, that's one thing that I miss about that bike... Not the fuel consumption though, 75 miles to the light on the IOM!
