By now, most of you are aware I've been working on building a workshop in my back garden; well it's reached a point where I'm happy to start sharing photos.

Demolition started October 20th and materials arrived a week later - effectively, we've built a weather tight workshop in 2 months just on weekends (minus the Christmas period)

So here you go.. this is the progress we've made and to say I'm proud is an understatement!

This last photo is to aid your probable questioning of an uncompleted side wall. We are using the old shed for storage and power currently so had to finish the workshop before we can knock the old shed down and finish the wall.

Also, those gates were made from free timber I supplied to my Bamp who then made these for us - he's over 70 and I'm incredibly grateful for him.

For whatever reason, talking money in the UK is taboo although we all know it's what everyone wants to know.

Approximate costs so far:
Building Materials - £1300
Windows & Doors - £170
Timber - FREE
Plyboard - FREE
Roofing Felt & Fixings - £70
8 cubic yd Skip - £190 (going to need another one)
Gate Lock - £25

Total Cost ~£1755

We estimate getting a build in would cost in the region for £3000 for materials and £6000 for labour.

Some fine bricklaying there imho Cav. Very well done indeed.
I couldn't see where you've taken the ducting through the base for the power supply.?

We haven't..

We had two choices. 1 - lay ducting and feed the cable through later (but we don't know exactly where we'll be laying the cable) or 2 - drill through the base concrete at a later date when we know where we lay the cable. We chose option 2.

We have some SWA laying around which we'll be using though but I still need to know what's going on with the lighting inside either

That looks excellent Cav, and for under £2K as well, I have seen new houses with much worse brickwork.

I'm mega proud but there's still a fair amount of work left, however, I have Uni deadlines looming and a trackday to prep the bike for so the work will be slowing down for now and concentrating on getting electricity and painting the floor etc.

Total cost will be about £3-4k when it's finished (sandstone paving for most of the remaining garden) but I'm still happy with that!

Elsie (our 6 month Springer) was most upset when she couldn't poo in there the morning after putting the doors on

She most definitely believed it to be her poo room

On another note love the fact you have a football field out back for your potential kids in the future and and also a dog walking field for your doggy now. That was a good find for a house

This house ticked so many boxes we didn't have on our list that the big check box left unfilled (garage) didn't matter.

The field behind the house is protected land too so it shouldn't ever be built on, at least not in my lifetime. There's also a Primary School adjacent to that field and a pub at the opposite end of the field. 2 shops in walking distance too.

Very quiet down here as we're at the very end of a spine road/cul-de-sac for 3 other cul-de-sacs

That sounds like a perfect location Cav. Must of done your homework looking around!
