I'm sure I saw this vid a couple days ago, I was surprised about the kerosene as that's what manufacturers recommend and I know use it too but it does penetrate through the seal!

Spudda's top tip....
Use an old plastic milk carton
Cut it so it fits behind the chain but leaves a reservoir to catch the crud and excess cleaner.
It protects your swing arm, wheel and tyre

I guess I need to show you a picture which I'll do at some point... (blush)
