Spider bite

I jet washed my block paved drive on Saturday (annual chore)
Occasionally the gulley / drain in front of the garage door got blocked with the moss/weeds/existing sand.
To clear it, I put my hand down the drain to clear it and clear the silt

Woke up on Sunday and my hand felt really heavy and looked like I was wearing a boxing glove.
Still swollen on Monday, I went to the quacks and they confirmed it as a spider bite !!

The drain is in the garage but close to the house and theres a rad on the opposite wall ... looks like I disturbed a spiders nest when I was clearing the drain.

The hand is still swollen and itchy but not as bad as it was on Sunday morning.

I think (and Im happy to be corrected) that Its probably a false widow bite, hardly the killer the press makes it out to be but can do that.
I hope it gets better soon mate, You could always sell your story to the daily fail "spider bite nearly cost me my arm" They love hyping up False widows as viscous killers.

I found a couple of falsies in my garage, quite happy to leave them there to be honest they dont bother me, bite is no worse than any of my snakes so im not worried about it. Plus I leave them alone and they leave me alone

There are more than a dozen species of spider in the UK which can hand out a decent bite. A few of them will give a bite leading to swelling. It could have been a false widow but the money spider likes to live around drains and damp vegetation. As they're really small you don't notice them.

Right...so there was me blissfully unaware that Britain has these type of horrible creatures that can inflict such horrible pain! Hmmm I think I might stay clear of saving spiders lives when I see them about to get crushed at work from now on lol

The don't like biting people, they get nothing from it and it's a waste of venom.

They only do it when people start poking around in dark places.
