I did it many years ago in a car and even did a bit of observing for them but probably rusty with bad habits now so maybe worth a look.

I'm actually thinking of getting some car driving instruction.

My biggest concern these days is the poor standard of driving. Anything I can do to give myself an edge could make a big difference in the longterm.

I've been using the car all week. I was starting to warm to 4 wheels for the commute. Until this morning's journey which took me 95 minutes.

i had two attempts at IAM training, I suppose I did about 6 sessions with the first and four with the second, it was helpful, mostly I remember advice about keeping distance and defensive behaviours at junctions but somehow I couldn't get on with it, I think it was too advanced for what I was looking for.

After that I had some training from A2 examinors which was much more what I wanted and where I was having problems, obsevation, basic procedures, stuff I had forgotten or never learned because the test was a joke when I did it back in the late 1960's, that was really useful. Incidentally there's something I can't quite put my finger on with IAM, it was like you get an immunity if you qualify which of course can't be right as even IAM people are getting wiped out in 'accidents'. Maybe that's just sour grapes on my part though

I never used to mind long commutes when I did them.....up to 90 minutes or so & I'm fine with it. I wouldn't like to do it again though....25 years of that sh#te was more than enough.

I was taught to be aggressive with my riding, if you ride defensive on a bike you get taken for a mug. Assertive movements, clear indication but retained manors will make more motorists pay attention to you - you will still be invisible to the vast majority of zombie drivers though.

One of my favourite parts of commuting was filtering and not once was I hit off (although I got with with a few wing mirrors!) because you spot the gaps and the drivers who are not paying attention and you're ready for them with their last minute lane changes in the correct gear, on the best possible bit of road surface and your foot over the brake poised to take action. I wish I could commute through built up areas for my commute; I love it!

You had it right there with "assertive" rather than aggressive, I think.

They call it aggressive or defensive riding if I remember correctly but yes, it's really being assertive

So how many GS's and polite vests were there?

There would have been at least 1 K1600GT owner who is looked upon as a God by the GS owners who don't know how this man can handle all those cylinders
