I'm going to fit my carbon swingarm covers soon. Before I do I need to cover them with clear protective plastic to stop the covers getting marked by my feet.

Someone (I think it was Blade) previously recommended a company or product.

Any pointers much appreciated.

what, something like a clear shrink wrap ? or something like the venture shield stuff ?

just got me thinking when typing ... remember that clear sticky backed plastic they use to cover books etc
I wonder if that would work and then use a hairdryer to get any imperfections out ... hmmm I wonder

My crap memory has me thinking it was in sheets and you cut it to shape. It was suitable for outdoor stuff.

Loads of it on eBay so just find some one who has or can supply the right size for you.

Glad to help. Good tip IMO is buy a little extra in case you mess up and if you don't you have enough for a replacement or any other job that may come up. Its useful stuff to have lying around.

I guess you could use sticky back plastic, but it's what the sticky does to the surface it's stuck to that would concern me.

Ventureshield doesn't affect paintwork, which is why I have it on my bikes and cars.

You can buy sheets of it too rather than specific kits. Easy to fit too.

had venture shield on the Daytona very good stuff. Didn't even think of it when posting on this thread! Mind you was at work and only had a minute of so spare lol!

You are correct they are both made by 3M, however they are different products. 3M bought ventureshield a few years ago as it was outselling their own product as it protects paint from UV better and was outselling their products (or something like that)

I did this to mine on the Aprilia, i only cut a shape to fit where the boots were actually rubbing. The Ali swingarm had a clear OEM patch to stop the polished swingarm being scratched off boots anyway.

Don't know if they're still available, but Motrax used to do those clear adhesive patches for rubbing points like boot heels etc, I used them to stop Mrs Gee's boots from rubbing on the seat unit of my old T595 with good results, I think they do a carbon version as well, although they do look a bit cheap and tacky tbh.

I've seen the patches but I think I want to cover all of the protector so it looks better.

Kwacky buy the stuff I said I have used it for a couple of years now with no problems.

Make a template of the swingarm and then use that to cut out an exact shape in the protective film to cover your swingarm, simples

That's what I did with the carbon heel protectors. It's stayed on the one side but cutting out the gaps at the top on the left has allowed the weather to get into it and lift it.
