I let a mate have a go on one of my old bikes just up and down his street, he almost got taken out by a car reversing off their drive and ended up hammering across 3 gardens trying to avoid it :D it was only an old wrecker of a bike though. my advice would be not to do it.

Hope he stops don't let him being technically a little higher than you be a persuader in this situation he should know what situation he's putting you in to and to me that is not fair.

If he asks again tell the guy that it won't happen, this is your property and therefore your responsibility, the guy isn't insured if worst case scenario occurs

Though this is better advice haha

I asked a mate if I could have a go on his bike once.

He told me not to wheelie it.

So I didn't.

I just braked too hard and fell off it instead.

I was only 15/16, and it was only a 50cc, but that's still someone's bike and he wasn't happy.
Neither was I, I had shorts on and took a chunk of skin off my leg!

Point to that story; of course it'll end badly. There's no other possible outcome than you starting another thread titled "so I let this guy at work ride my bike..."

Agreed and after meeting you and seeing the bike all in one piece and looking good be a shame to read someone else has smeared it across a car park floor and buried half in a Beemer haha

Fwiw I expect that Hubb's has got the message loud & clear by now.

Perhaps thinking hats on.: Maybe the advice we should now be concentrating on offering should be more around the best tactic for changing his colleague's mind .?

Bit late into this thread, Hubs but my take as follows...

Just stick to your guns, and explain the whys and wherefores of insurance and the ramifications of him possibly dropping it, and even hurting himself...if that fails, give him a slap!!! ;) (punch)

If you want to politely refuse without actually being seen to say no by him, try quoting the Company rules - all the large companies I've worked for have strict rules on the use of their car parks enforceable by disciplinary action, and if they are a bit ambiguous chances are if you work on a Business Park or Industrial Estate the owners will have rules preventing "Joyriding" or testing vehicles etc. If all else fails just tell him your Insurance company forbids it. He does sound as if he hasn't quite grasped the British habit of polite refusal as yet. Good luck with him, fortunately a good natured profanity has always worked for me.

I had a long well thought out reply ready with notorised thank yous, and then I hit preview and it told me I needed to log back in and lost the post.

In short (although he has yet to ask again since) I'm sticking to my guns and have come up with almost a dozen against type arguments from peoples posts which I'll throw at him one after the other should it come up again.

And thanks for everyones input, even Kwackys
