Make the most of it. I reckon it will be the last petrol or diesel company car you have.

In 2020 the proposed BIK rate on electric cars is 2%. Nothing else will make economic sense if that becomes the rule.

Thing is duke, with the current charge range an electric car just isn't a viable option for some people. When I was in applications I would drive as much as 600 miles a day and I know some people shared the driving and did double that, an electric car would have added days to the travel time. Granted, these trips aren't an every day occurence but it's still a massive inconvenience and cost disadvantage to a company

Its 3 years away. In that time i have no doubt all the major manufacturers will have a viable electric car in their range. Its why Governments make these rules.

These are the projected BIK rates.

Effectively a £35k company car for a 40% tax payer will cost:

All electric - £280 per annum

Car making 100g/Co2 - £3,500 per annum

You tell me which any sane person will choose?

Plus if you are out on company business i suspect most of us wouldn't mind having to take a 30 minute break whilst the car recharged.

Given that I had 3 days to get to a job, do the job and get home I'm glad I didn't have to have multiple 30-45minute breaks.

I'm sure at some point in the not so distant future we will see charge range match (probably exceed) current cars but for that journey with the current range of cars it would not have been a viable option.

600 miles in the current Tesla is only 1 or 2 stops. If you can't have a one hour break in 600 miles there is something very wrong.

I drive for work over the entire country and with enough charging stations, the current Tesla wouldn't alter my day much at all.

Sadly that's not on the list either

It is a problem when you have to get places quickly or else hefty fines occur hence the two people driving back to back hour upon hour.

For me not being in that job anymore an electric car is certainly viable but if I was still in that role I couldn't have one as a company car

The local Doctors, usually they are about as helpful as a concrete life jacket, but today they were excellent with 2 minor issues answered and an appointment for a flu jab booked within 1 short phone call.
