Cavetrolls MT09 thread

So as a few of you know i wasnt particularly getting on with my zx6r and was looking at swapping it for something a little more.....fun......andi was looking at yammy mt09s.

Well today i did the deal, rode into dealers on my ninja, did a deal and rode out on a 2014 mt09 with 9500 mile on the clock, its completley stock except its had the yammy throttle reflash to smooth the jerky throttle.

You know what, i havnt stopped smiling while on it, yes you can tell its a bit of a budget bike, the brakes are shocking and the suspension feela like a bouncy castle at the birthday party of a fat 6 year old thats just had cake, but i havnt stopped giggling and loved every second, i immediatley felt a million times more confident on this than the kwakka and abused it that much harder because of it, already had the front up a few times.

I teat rode one of these when it forst came out and opted for the triumph over it, the triumph just felt the more sophisticated bike and it still does, but i must admit this is jus so much fun. BUT there is room for improvement so i figured id start this thread so as i do it up you guys can see. Already the shopping list is long and expensive....

Exhaust- thinking Titanium Scorpion Serkat system
Stubbby levers which ive already ordered as i need these with my manky hand
Fly screen
Belly pan
Crash bungs
Bar end mirrors
Swing arm bobbins - not glamorous but essential
Proper suspension set up / spring replacement and rear shock
Braklines, brake pads and generally anything to improve the stoppers coz at the mo thet are the worst thing about the bike

Im sure there will be more very soon but for now im just happy, i just had so much fun on this bike, and its nice knowing i can still corner haha! (Just not on a sportsbike apparently)

Cheers

Nice. Happy New bike day.

PM me your address, I've got some spare swing arm bobbins you can have. They're as new.

Fantastic bike once you sort the suspension, the improved composure of the STR is why my money went that way but I did enjoy the grunt of the 09, how many power wheelies have you had so far (blush)

It sounds like you have a good To-Do list so far, Welcome to the Naked side, :D

So ordered a couple of bits last night, mainly my stubby adjustable levers coz i need the brake moved a bit for my hand and theres not enough adjustment stock, and my end can, was gunna go full system but you can get the headers separately for the can i went for so i can get them at a later date

Is the standard exhaust not a 1 piece design on those? You might have to get busy with the angle grinder.

Good stuff! Something to be said for a comfortable ride position. I'm loving the Multi after the D600.

Bikes are all about fun for me too CT - if it ain't fun what's the point?

There is nothing like gelling immediately with a bike, it just feels so right from the moment you throw a leg over it, it inspires confidence and makes you a better rider, it sounds as if you have nailed your choice of bike and it looks great, loving the blue wheels against the black/grey/chrome of the rest of the bike. Top choice!

After you've done the exhaust swap, it might be worth checking to make sure all the front caliper pistons are moving freely and the discs are free to move on the bobbins, something daft like that may fix the brakes for not a lot of money.
