Mechanic Hourly Rates
Hi all .... I'm glad to say I'm still alive
Still dodging bullets tho
Still got charging issues with the bike
Massive thanks to Kiwikrasher for posting me a mosfet r/r
I always thought that when you have charging issues, you need to change both the stator and the r/r
However, I've found a local triumph specialist and a cracking guy who once worked for Statstone.
Facebook page ... Triumphtech
Went to see him and he said you simply check the phases on the stator and that way you can identify the issue without changing both ... Bonus
Bike isn't insured or taxed at the mo so with Lee living close, he picked it up, diagnosed it and dropped it back all for £30
Turns out it is the stator so although the mosfet isn't required, I've ordered a stator and going to get him to change both.
He reckons 2 hours work at £30 per hour, yes I know I can do it myself and I have in the past but I simply haven't got time ..... Is the hourly rate about right ?

Re: Mechanic Hourly Rates
That's spot on mate. Garage/Dealer rates are about £45 to £50 from memory.

Re: Mechanic Hourly Rates
Even though the R/R isn't stuffed, it's the original shunt type which is considered to be the leading cause of the stator failures, so putting the mosfet one in should help prevent further problems.

Re: Mechanic Hourly Rates
2 hrs is pretty good time frame to as he'll have to modify the mounting for the mosfet, not that its a huge task. Use to take me about 30 mins just to get that bloody stator cover back back on with that stupid little gear falling out and being lazy I never removed the cooling hose so it was always a struggle.

Re: Mechanic Hourly Rates
Bite his arm off, that's a steal. I looked at going self employed about 4yrs back, I'd have had to charge £35 an hour to get a living out of it by the time I'd loaded all the costs in.
