Re: Why was I nervous yesterday!?
So it's been around 3 weeks since starting in my new department at Mars. I've been working days because Mars have brought back the Milkyway production to Slough so therefore we have all had to have training on the machines as Milkyway is very light and is a thinner bar than Mars or Snickers. It's been great as I have helped with stripping the machines and learned a fair bit. I'm sure with more experience ill learn more and more
So with this in mind last night was my first night shift and I should be working tonight as well but im off on holiday because my partner is going hospital tomorrow for a small operation and she will need looking after so work has been very accommodating and allowed me to take tonight off which means I won't be going back to work until Tuesday. So my night shift went well however didn't pack until the last hour due to a machine break down BUT I used the time wisely and carried in with a bit of my induction booklet and ticked off a few more bits and pieces from it.
I should of started a online course which is stated to take 5 hours or so (however the last online course I did a couple of days ago said it would only take 20mins...1.5hours later and I had then finished!!!) I didn't start the 5 hour course though because I'm considering popping in on one of my days off and getting it done without the interruptions and without worrying about getting down to the line.
Last night was the first time I used my bike to get to and from work. I think it will work well for the night shifts as traffic is horrid BUT the day shifts I miss all the traffic so it's lovely!!
All in all going very well very happy

Re: Why was I nervous yesterday!?
Resurrecting an old thread here but had my ears moulded for new work regulation ear plugs as the ones they provide I find horrible - good quality and good brand but I have strange ear canals and I find majority uncomfortable. Anyway been waiting 6 weeks for them to arrive and they arrived today.
They feel incredible. I have some moulded ear plugs for the bike which are good but these work ones are a quite thick but they are a softer silicone and you really do forget you are wearing them. Superb Quality very happy chappy

Re: Why was I nervous yesterday!?
Resurrecting my old thread!
*Warning long post!*
So in the few months weve had good points and bad points at work
I'll start with the bad points
As of next year our break patterns are changing because they are trying to cover as many of the empty positions within our factory and they seem to believe they can do this by changing our break patterns therefore we will get less breaks now. We aren't happy but we shall see how it goes! This means that people are having to move department and even shift.
An entire department is leaving Slough due to sales - being dead in the water! Mars have invested millions (literally) and they have lost money! Even though the States couldn't get the product off the shelves they believed us Brits could take it and sort out their huge issues...We couldn't!
And I didn't get a box of Teasers the other day from the shop due to them all being handed out within the day. So today I got told they had M&Ms being handed out as our free weekly choc and when I went upstairs (5 mins after being told) they were all gone!!
Now the good
In the last month I have been nominated and won Superstar award for being hard working on the line which means I was awarded £25 Gift voucher (in a whole bunch of stores or resturants)
Today was our last day at work for breakup over Christmas
Approx 20 mins before the end of our shift I was running around sorting out my last bits and pieves for my work and I was pulled aside and handed another £25 M&S gift vouchers for doing 150+ days of taste panels (basically tasting chocolate to make sure it tastes OK) yes this is a job and yes you do have to go through training to see if you can taste if somethings wrong!
As I was leaving today (showered and changed back into civvies) I was walking past the offices and noticed my Team Leader (manager) still there working. I shouted out the obligatory 'you know its Christmas now' 'go home' etc etc!! He laughed! But then went serious, he said could I have a few minutes of your time?!
Yes, I said. Sounds serious? What's going on? Stumbled out of my mouth. Do I have to sit down?
He mentioned that it would be better to sit down!
*I sat*
I'm not moving shift or from bars (department) - blurted out from my mouth
Team Leader laughed
I'm not joking - i said
Team Leader realised I wasn't messing around and smiled
He said - you have been with us since 2017, your name has been mentioned a lot since you started, by not only your old Team Leader but also by myself, other Team Leaders, different shifts, even by value stream leaders (big bods).
Ok - I said in a confused manned
You have shown everything that we think a new Associate should be. Always keeping yourself busy, never letting people struggle, always lending a hand whenever you can and he mentioned my energy levels are great, he said he doesn't know where i get it from!!
Ok - confused still I said
You know we talk about people and we have nominations for associate of the month etc, well your name has been mentioned and we think you deserve
Associate of the Year for Bars
I couldn't believe it
I was thrilled had a huge smile on my face. I mentioned how I do take a look at the board and how I will prob never get up there (when you look at who gets up there they are all involved in big project etc. And me and a friend even joke about it as we started the same time (same induction) and we say how it will prob take us 10 years to get up there!
Me and the Team Leader chatted some more and about it all and he carried on and said
With this you will get £250!!
So in the last month I have got an extra £300
Goes to show hard work pays off.
So much happier than my old place.
Loving life!

Re: Why was I nervous yesterday!?
Thank you so much Kwacky geniunely happy I know its not every year but for a lad like myself to get associate of the year while only being there for less than 2 years thats a big thing. Bear in mind the lads who go up on the board are usually there for 15-30 year experience. Kinda hope it's not going to rock the boat !!

Re: Why was I nervous yesterday!?
StMarks - 100% glad of the move. I felt degraded and worn down at my last place. When you wake up knowing there will be arguments before even getting out of bed, you know its not the right place!! Used to be a great place but the motivators went, last to go was the money and I realised there was nothing left.

Re: Why was I nervous yesterday!?
Kwacky - Bounty used to be a Slough product right by my department I work in now. It's a big big line however it went over to Europe years back. Would love that to come back now! A bloke on another shift used to be one of the Lead Ops in that bay and he said there was never a dull moment!
