I know a couple on here like a drop of gin too. Any recommendations for a decent gin? Don't want any bank breakers, but something you can enjoy of an evening.
I'd try a bottle of Hendricks with a Fever Tree tonic, both are good quality and sing when put together, but they're a strong flavour, if you prefer a sweeter and not so "in your face" flavour I'd try a Haymans Old Tom and Schweppes tonic. Either choice is good, it just depends on what your tastes are, what are you enjoying at the moment?
Easing myself in gently to new tastes with the classic Gordon's and Schweppes combo.

i hope your Gordon's is better there than in Aus/NZ, personally I find it to be garabage.

Like DeeGee said, I'd reccomend the Hendricks and go a slice of cucumber instead of lime. Other good commercial brands you should get over there is Botanist (Scottish) and Sipsmith (London).

Other than that try some small batch brands and experiment to find what you like. IMO gin price usually equates to taste and quality. There are exceptions of course.

Kiwi is spot on with the cucumber for Hendricks, if you're drinking Gordon's and enjoying it, but want a small change without going too far, either Plymouth or Tanqueray 10 are really good, I'm not a fan of the standard Tanqueray as to my tastes it's a bit meh. Hth.

I'm with DeeGee on the Tanqueray and I'd put Bombay Saphire in the category. The Tanqueray 10 was a fair bit better but the Bombay Star (their premium) isn't much of a step up.

But DeeGee touched on a good point. If you're enjoying what you're drinking, it's all good!

Cheers guys. I think a bottle of Tanqueray should be a good first try.

I know Gordons is the "Strongbow" of the gin world, but as gin is all new to me (and the last time I tried it I hated it) it's a good starting point. Plus at £8 for a half bottle, if I didn't like it I hadn't wasted a wad of cash.

I've paid up to AU$120 (£70) for a 500ml before (wasntme) but generally I'm spending around $60-$70 (duty free mind you, as I'm international coming home from work) for a litre/700ml bottle.

This is this trips order, I get 20% off due to being a frequent buyer (drunk)

Wow... Now that's different, and in a very good way too... Not the cheapest that tanquery 10, but glad I spent out for it. Just got to make sure I don't guzzle it to quickly..

Do you guys keep you gin in the fridge, or at room temperature?

Fridge. Gin, tonic and even the glass if I can remember to do it. I went through a spell of cutting up lemons/limes and freezing them for added chill, but tbh it kills the fruit and it's better cut fresh each time.

Here's another question, what sort of glass do you drink it from......

Mines an old fashioned, tried others, but they all lack something.

Good, I keep all but the glass in the fridge too.

I use generic tall tumblers to drink from. Tbh, if I bought a special glass I think the wife would think in taking the piss.

I've been getting enough grief because I went shopping for gin rather than clean out the guinea pig hutches.
