You didn’t bring bed bugs back from Cookies did you?? (lol)

Back in for another MRI. They wanted to do a dye contrast after what they found on the first one. But they won’t tell me what that was songsve to wait till my GP gets the report and tells me.

If I was a bike I’d be doing an insurance job on me about now

So picked up the films and report today. Big sticker on the opening saying ‘Confidential-GP only’ and I thought bugger that, it’s my body.

So turns out I have a tumour inside my spinal cord. Off to see a neurologist on Thursday to find out what the go is.

When it rains it pours.

I'm no doctor, but let them interpret the results properly before you go and make conclusions, but yes a bit worrying.

Fingers crossed from here it's just old age as Kwacky says and they can sort it or it's nothing problematic.

My main concern isn’t if it’s benign or malignant to be honest. The tumour/lesion is inside my spinal chord at T1. So the have to go inside the chord to get it, which is problematic.

Hard to know what to say kiwi mate but gutted you have this to deal with.

See what the doc says first, but hope it's nothing and whatever treatment your prescribed it goes well and your looked after.

Keep well buddy.

Jeez Kiwi, if you fell in a barrel of tits you’d come out sucking your thumb!

On a more serious note, fingers crossed this turns out to be either nothing to worry about or easily dealt with, chin up and good thoughts coming towards yourself, Jess and your kids from the Gee family. (bear) (bear)

Life can be really crap at times.

So saw a neurosurgeon today.

Big day.

Tumour has to come out. It’s blocking my spinal fluid flow and it’s got to the size it’s starting to push the walls of the spinal chord out. That’s going to cause me problems. Big problems.

He’s pretty sure from the MRI it’s a glioma. 80% are malignant. So once it’s out they will do pathology and if it is bad, do follow up radiation. This type has poor margins. 50% of people survive to 10 yrs.

They have to cut part of my vertebrae out to access the spinal chord. That doesn’t get replaced. May cause me issues if I make it to my late 60-70’s.

Got further referred to another neurosurgeon who is more experienced in tumours in the spine and brain stem. He works with her so force booked me in to her schedule for Monday next week. It is possible depending on her case load that I have surgery next Thursday.

It’s at C5/6, so if it goes wrong I’m dead from neck down.

Yay!

Balls.

There's very little I can say. I know everything will be running through your head.

Get off line. Don't start googling. Go have some laughs with your family and come back after next Monday with an update.

Yep - that's a big day alright, no dressing it up as positive is there? (sweat)

I wrote a big long positive speech about how to think, but words just coming out wrong.

My positive to give you from all of that is that they are going to try and deal with it quickly and they seemingly know what they are doing and have a plan.

Did they say if it goes well what your recovery timescales could be?

My thoughts are with you my friend, i'm sure that goes for all of us who float around Tankslap.

You just have to keep thinking it will go well and take each step as it comes (easy for me to say).

Keep us informed as we will worry, you know we will (bear) (bear) (bear) (bear) (bear)

Cheers guys.

I’ve had my little meltdowns today but mostly I’m feeling pragmatic about it all.

I got home and told the kids to ditch homework, we played video games, gave Byron an early birthday present and all went out for dinner and indulged in dessert.

I’m home, kids safe and happy, my lass looking after me, on the couch having a gin. May have had a Monty type medication as well (lol)

Day done. Start again tomorrow.

Day nearly done. Pretty positive one. Went and picked up my brain scan MRI and report. Jess came with me so I wouldn’t look at the report.

By the time we both got back to the car we had decided we were going to look. I had booked an appointment with my GP because I could wait till the neurosurgeon on Monday but neither of us could wait.

Scan clear, no other tumours.

Today was a win. Spent 2 hrs in my yard enjoying the fresh air, played netball with my daughter and enjoyed the moment.

Joined a Australian Spinal Tumour support group on FB. 58 memebers. Had been told my condition was rare, but 58 out of 20 Million. feck me.

Apparently this is the battle scar I have to look forward to.

Tell you what. No mindfulness prepares me for how much I now realise I took my current life for granted.

Live it guys, bloody take it by the horns and do what makes you happy. It can change in a moments notice.
