That's terrible news and terrible timing.
Is it worth getting a second opinion or another quote? Will home insurance help with costs?

£1840? I know its Christmas Eve but feck me. Got any fan heaters / electric radiators for a few days? I'd get a second quote with another plumber. I know its really close to xmas but that sounds really high.D6 wrote:Yay boiler is fecked.
Need a new one. Plumber can fit tomorrow for £1840. Great timing.
How old was the current one?
Whatever the result its such bad timing

I'm afraid with little ones and elderly here not much choice. Tbh the plumber is someone Kate used to work for. So he's not someone likely to rip us off. He fit a new pump to our old one first to see if it would work. But removed it and will keep it and sell it on when it was clear that wasn't the only issue. 1800 is for new boiler and fitting. Bearing in mind he wasn't working tomorrow so is doing a bug favour. Also due to 3 bathrooms we needed a high watt rating which means pricier boilers.
I looked on the Web and our current boiler is over 1500 quid. Before fitting.

Re: What do you want to vent about today?
Jeez D6 that's crap news but to be fair that doesnt sound like a bad price. My parents had a new boiler a while back and spent a lot on that and it was a cheap boiler for a small home with a digital reader which is certainly new to them. You should jump on that price for a place with 3 bathrooms, I know i would. I'd guess it be all installed by the end of the day and you will have your hot water back

I know I would’ve been offshore anyway if I hadn’t have gone back for the fires but somehow this feels worse.

Chin up, kiwi. At least you have averted a bigger catastrophe for now.
Unfortunately we do tend to have advertising ramming down our throats how Christmas is the perfect time of the the year when, for quite a few, that is not the case.

Took my son out to meet his mates tonight only to find the main road closed and dozens of blue flashing lights.
Turns out a hit and run had mown down a 60 year old woman on a mobility scooter. She died instantly.
When I finally get into town some **** in a BMW is doing doughnuts round the mini roundabout.
I despair of where this Country is heading.

Re: What do you want to vent about today?
Had a fair bit of wind last night and I’ve lost a 20m high tree and now I have 3 or 4 days of chainsawing, cleaning up and pool deck repairs too do.
In fairness the tree has been dead for a couple of years and I’ve had a quote to get it and another taken down but never quite got around to it.

Taxi drivers, the council have made a street in the town centre into a 1 way but these moron's simply drive past the sign, around the barriers and up the wrong way. I had a 10 minute stand-off with one today, 13 tons of Volvo double decker with air horns failed to convince him until a parking warden came and started taking pictures of the situation and his taxi plate... He found reverse pretty quickly then.

Re: What do you want to vent about today?
Out cycling with my brother this morning bumbling along two abreast on a quiet wide open country lane ,old bint in a mini cuts us up then slams her brakes on bringing g me down
Then 12 miles later fat hard man in a car with his wife and kids cuts me up so I fall him a fat wanker
He then stops a threatens me so I get off my bike and say cmon then lets go fatty ,he the drives off swearing
10 miles up the road hes in the road and starts swinging at me ,I manage to get to the side of the road and put him on the deck
Loads of cars stop and he starts shouting I attacked him !
Some people really need to understand we share the queens highways and being fat with a shaved head doesnt mean your tough

I started competitively cycling and training on the roads aged 11 and can honestly say it is becoming increasingly volatile and dangerous
I have a lot of respect for you commuting every day the roads are full of wankers.

People need to see using the roads as a privilege and not a God given right.
